Interview: Kostadin Tanusev
Luca Curci talks with Kostadin Tanusev during FUTURE LANDSCAPES, third appointment of BORDERS Art Fair 2020, at THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space.
My name is Kostadin Tanusev. I was born on August 30th, 1977 in Strumica, North Macedonia. I grew up in a craft family and discovered my artistic talent as a child. During school I participated in national school competitions and was allowed to represent my school. At the age of 8 I started drawing my first comics. My works were very well recognized, so that at the age of 14 I was allowed to draw posters for advertising campaigns. In the military, my interest in tattooing also developed, which I concentrated on in the following years. I never lost my passion for painting. Married at the end of 2001 and emigrated to Germany. Subsequently, I had to take care of the well-being of my own little family. Since 2015 my concentration has been intensely in painting again. I use several techniques, such as oil painting, acrylic painting or with dry pastel. Cubism was a great epoch in my work, as was impressionism, classic art, futurism or even pop art. I have recently committed myself to contemporary art, mostly in geometric style.

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Kostadin Tanusev – For me, art is striving for what does not exist, inner satisfaction, and feelings.
LC – What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
KT – My background and influences, most often experiences in life and dreams.

LC – What is your creative process like?
KT – I think I’m too creative, most of time I have the pictures in my head, but at the end always comes out something else.
LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
KT – No, they are mostly from events and experiences.
LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
KT – It’s very hard, either you have luck and support, or you have to fight yourself through in life.

LC – We were attracted by your last artistic production, has the artwork presented been created for the festival or as a part of preexisting works?
KT – No, the work I presented is from a series of paintings that I created in 2019.
LC – Do you agree with our vision of art and what do you think about the theme of the festival?
KT – Yes sure. Without your vision I wouldn’t be able to show my work in Venice, and the festival theme is well adapted too.

LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
KT – I love that the platform exists, through ITSLIQUID Platform artists like me get the opportunity to be present in such events.
LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
KT – Yes, of course, why not. So far I can only say positive things about ITSLIQUID GROUP.
LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
KT – Yes, of course! I am very satisfied.
