Interview: Luana Stebule
Luca Curci talks with Luana Stebule during CONSCIOUSNESS, second appointment of ANIMA MUNDI 2022 art fair, at Palazzo Bembo – Venice Grand Canal.

“Since 2013 I have been living and creating in the United Kingdom. My art has included projects for the stage, and murals paintings, together with 24 solos and 42 shared exhibitions in Europe: Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, England and the United States. My current artworks are traditional, oil on canvas. A decade ago get bored with the abstractionism art style, because the majority of all my colleagues’ painters were creating in this manner and explored a new way how to express myself.” Luana Stebule

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Luana Stebule – My approach to art is the same as Pablo Picasso “I always aim at the resemblance. An artist should observe nature but never confuse it with painting. It is only translated into a painting by signs. But such signs are not invented. To arrive at the sign, you have to concentrate hard on the resemblance. To me, surreality is nothing, and has never been anything but this profound resemblance to something deeper than the forms and colors in which objects present themselves”. Art plays a major role in my life. Sometimes I regret that I always have been concentrated on my art projects and didn’t pay enough attention to my family and sometimes upset closest to me. I am a person who knows my own way.

LC – What are you currently working on?
LS – At this moment I am obsessed with my new discoveries about how in a new way created human faces, figures and objects of nature. I express my attitude and philosophy about human connections with each other, and never-ending life with my never-ending lines in my current paintings.

LC – Where do you find your inspiration?
LS – Sometimes inspirations come from outside the world: travels, books, architecture, nature, sometimes from inside and appears in my vision it comes from the eternity, God, immortality and I appreciate it very much.

LC – Are your works focused on a specific theme?
LS – Sometimes my artworks focused on a specific theme, sometimes not. In the last decade, I was inspired by the different objects for example. From 2017 – 2019 I was inspired by the forms of houses in the shape of shoes and the rare type of orchids and I created about 50 paintings. During the pandemic period, my thoughts about humanity, family, friends, life and death slightly changed my attitude and it appears in my paintings in a new manner.

LC – How do you feel when you see your work completed?
LS – Usually I have a burning idea inside me and I very quickly compose paintings and like very much begging new artworks and always I am not fully satisfied when artworks are completed. I am always in progress. It is not the item for sale. After a while I, again and again, come back and work on nuances and richness of surfaces. I have a few paintings which I started in 1987 and still working in progress.

LC – We were attracted by your last artistic production, has the artwork presented been created for the exhibition or as a part of preexisting works?
LS – Thank you. Yes, I think I discovered something new in the Art World. It is new artwork, but I am not focused on exhibitions. Of course, I am exhibiting online and participating in 10 different projects around the world. But I have had bad experiences with shipping pictures to Italy and London. I lost my paintings, nobody replied to my email and for the last few years, I was exhibiting only online. This month I participated in The Other Art Fair, presented by the Saatchi Art in Dallas, but I brought my pictures with me. And participating in your exhibition “Consciousness” in Venice.

LC – Do you agree with our vision of art and what you think about the theme of the exhibition?
LS – Yes, I absolutely agree with your vision about art and the theme is very good.

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
LS – Yes, I enjoy it. Thank you. I was thinking about my solo exhibition in the future. Too many options. One gallery from New York is very good, but the shipping costs a lot. Perhaps I will choose you.

LC – Would you suggest a few collaboration with us? What do you think about our services?
LS – Yes, of course, I suggest a collaboration with you, you are very professional. Your service is very good! Thank you very much!
