Interview: Malgorzata Kirago
Luca Curci talks with Malgorzata Kirago, WINNER of the ARTIST OF THE MONTH – September Competition.

Malgorzata Kirago is a contemporary Polish artist born in Warsaw, working primarily with palette knives, in oils and acrylics. Her works straddle the boundaries of abstraction, expressive realism, and intuitive painting, building her own unique style based on emotion, element, and form. In her works, she develops distinctive means of expression: geometric backgrounds, balanced contrasts of color and texture, as well as rhythmic compositions bordering landscape and abstraction.

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Malgorzata Kirago – For me, art is beauty, emotions, and memories captured on canvas or in other forms of expression. Creating art gives me satisfaction, calmness, and a sense of fulfilment. Art is like giving a part of yourself to people. I’m glad that my paintings can have a positive impact on viewers, encouraging reflection, stimulating the imagination, and perceiving beauty in the world around them.

LC – What are you currently working on?
MK – I’m currently working on a series of paintings related to cities, depicting the skyscrapers of metropolitan areas. The first paintings will be connected to Warsaw, which is close to my heart, the city where I was born, received my education, and have worked for years. The inspiration came from the panorama of skyscrapers I observe daily on my way to work. I have a plan to paint other famous cities with characteristic buildings that are famous for.

LC – What are the three hashtags essential to define your poetics that you could not give up?
MK – #Nature #Moments #Emotions

LC – Where do you find your inspiration?
MK – I draw inspiration from the world around me, the play of light and texture in nature. I’m a visual person; the changing environment, colors, and textures constantly inspire me. I want to capture all of this and, through my own unique style, share it with my audience for further reflection.

LC – How is your creative process?
MK – When I start working on my new painting, I always know what I want to paint, what my idea of my work is. It is preceded by previous observations and analyses, and preliminary sketches of the painting. Color is most important for me; most often, it determines my new project. When something deeply inspires me, I take a photo and then, in an abstract way, I transfer it to the canvas.

LC – What do you think about the concept of this exhibition? How did it inspire you?
MK – My first event with ITSLIQUID Group was in Venice: Borders Art Fair- FUTURE LANDSCAPES
Landscapes are one of the themes of my artworks. I was really excited to see the different interpretations of it. So many techniques and individual artists’ styles could be discovered from all over the world. It was amazing, like a feast for the eyes and soul! I was looking for inspiration everywhere, and this exhibition was revealing and valuable for me.

LC – Can you explain something about the artwork you have in our exhibition?
MK – As I mentioned above, my works refer to landscapes. One of two works presented during the exhibition “The Natural Connection” is a kind of landscape seen from a bird’s eye view. It is a structural abstraction built on the contrast of deep shades of azure, indigo, with textural layers of beige and sand. It suggests a view of the coast or underwater reefs. I wanted to show the relationship between the elements of nature – water and earth. The painting has a strong effect on emotions and senses.

LC – What do you think about the ITSLIQUID Platform?
MK – It’s modern and intuitive. It’s easy to navigate, and you can quickly find the essential information every artist needs. When searching for the content you need, it’s a pleasure to view the posted images and photographs.

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
MK – I was very pleased to cooperate with ITSLIQUID Group. The service and care of the artists were at a very good level. I participated in two great exhibitions- in Venice and Rome and I am planning the next one. Organization and marketing were perfect, with a lot of photos, posts, reels, and information. ITSLIQUID Group professional teams, like project managers, curators, and coordinators, are always very helpful for artists.
