Interview: Maria Del Valle Dellacasagrande
Luca Curci talks with Maria Del Valle Dellacasagrande during BARCELONA CONTEMPORARY – 3RD EDITION at Valid World Hall Gallery.
“I am an Italian-Argentine artist graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. I took specialization courses in drawing in Lugano, sculpture in Pietrasanta and Sicilian painting in Taormina. My awards: Mention in painting at the Italian Hospital in Buenos Aires; Artistic Merit Trophy in Brazil; Mention in sculpture Association of Sculptors of Buenos Aires. I participated in several art exhibitions, the last one was at the Palazzo of the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, after which I decided to move to the city of my ancestors, Troina, in Sicily. In this beautiful and ancient village, I develop my artistic work, my inspiration comes from nature and culture through the knowledge and insights into the history of the Sicilian territory”.

Luca Curci – How did you get to your current artistic practice? What are you currently working on?
Maria Del Valle Dellacasagrande – I have studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and I am interested in the valorization of everyday objects, giving them a new meaning on an artistic level.
LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
MDVD – The theme that I develop in my works is the relationship between everyday life and Greek mythology. Sicily is a place full of myths and culture.

LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
MDVD – It is very stimulating and we are more connected.
LC – Do you use art to express something in particular? Is it your medium of expression?
MDVD – I use art to interact with the environment, above all, I express myself through the assembly of objects and their new meaning.

LC – What do you think about the concept of this exhibition? How did it inspire you?
MDVD – The exhibition is very interesting since we can see the works of other artists and Barcelona is a multicultural city.
LC – In which way the artwork presented in our exhibition is connected with the festival’s theme?
MDVD – The work presented expresses the birth of Venus, a beautiful and strong woman who was humbly born within a simple Crivu (in the Sicilian dialect, a flour strainer). We talk about the integration of myths and reality, the human being is a constant source of hard work and mysticism.

LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
MDVD – It is very interesting and active.
LC – What are your suggestions about our services? Is there something more we can provide to artists?
MDVD – I have no suggestions. The services are very professional.
LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
MDVD – Yes, they are very professional.
