Luca Curci talks with the artist Melek Toraman during CONTEMPORARY VENICE 2018 at Misericordia Archives.

Born in 1972 in the North German Island of Sylt, Melek graduated as a designer in Accademia Italiana in Florence, Italy.  After her business career in Istanbul, she moved to Alcati Izmir in 2006 due to her passion for Windsurf and nature. Melek opened her first solo exhibition in Alacati Izmir. Her strong brush strokes, she won acclaim in the contemporary art world. Her paintings began to attract the attention of many collectors and galleries. Focusing on the materials she uses in the picture, she directs the viewer to think about the principles of coloring and painting, and invites a viewpoint between imagination and truth through the free depths of the soul.

Luca Curci – What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?

Melek Toraman – My background is Designer I studied in Firenze and worked also at Lake of Garda. My love to art began when I realized that I can take peoples soul to another dimension with my art. With my colours I want to let people feel the pure light that everyone of us has inside.

LC – Why do you express yourself with paint?
MT – I love to express myself with painting because it is something that you put out that you have deep in your soul, I love the spiritual part and the power of the colours.

LC – Which art themes do you pursue? What is your preferred subject, if there is any?
MT – I do not thing so much about themes, it is something that comes as inspiration in that moment and flows into art.

LC – Do you agree with our vision of art and what do you think about the theme of the festival?
MT – Yes it sounds very good and Venice like historical place attracts.

LC – What is the message linked to the artwork you have shown in this exhibition?
MT – I want to express how art can take the viewers emotions into joy and happiness.

LC – What did you like the most during our opening ceremony for the exhibition?
MT – I loved to exchange with artist from different cultures our ideas.

LC – Did you like your experience with ITSLIQUID group? Would you recommend it?
MT – I like to be together with different artists from all cultures to built a synergy and when you are in Venice all that you see is beauty. I would recommend it to make experience with galleries and meeting other artists. Art connects.

LC – What is your idea about ITSLIQUID GROUP?
MT – ITSLIQUID likes to bring international artist together to give them opportunities to show their artworks in a beautiful city like Venice.
