Interview: Patrick Reßin
Luca Curci
talks with Patrick Reßin during the 13th edition of CONTEMPORARY VENICE 2023, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.

My name is Patrick Reßin, I’m 34 years old and I come from Hamburg. I’m a trained retail clerk and have been able to try out a few things, including branch management. In the end, I ended up working in a doctor’s office as a career changer. Due to my mental illness, which I have developed, I am currently on sick leave. I enjoy the luxury of painting day after day. This is my best therapy at the moment. I started painting again in May. In art I can be myself, create my own world and block out everything else. Painting used to be my great passion, but unfortunately, it was lost due to many other things. Through my mental illness and visiting a day clinic, I was able to rekindle my fire. I love painting colourful pictures, a little abstract, a little crazy and a little normal, the main thing is colour. When I paint, I feel good and forget about the problems I have.

Luca Curci – How much has the city/country you grew up in influenced your work as an artist?
Patrick Reßin –
The city or country I live in has not influenced me. More like my mental illness that accompanies me at the moment. Painting helps me a lot: I can relax and forget about my problems for a short time.

LC – Which artists have influenced your work in some way?
PR –
No artist influenced me, I found my own colorful style. Of course, there are certain artists that I think are very good, but they have nothing to do with my style.

LC – Has your style changed over the years? In which way?
PR –
My style changed, but within a few months. I only started painting in May 2023. Before the pictures were colorful, now they have become even more colorful. Very colorful.

LC – What three hashtags are essential to defining your poetry that you couldn’t do without?
PR –
I use hashtags, but they don’t have much influence on me. I paint because I enjoy it. In the past, artists also painted without hashtags.

LC – Do your artworks focus on a specific theme?
PR –
Yes, my theme is colorful, the brighter and more colorful the better I feel afterwards. My psyche is very grey. That’s a great balance for me.

LC – What message is associated with the artwork you showed at this event? How does it relate to the theme of the entire exhibition?
PR –
My message is simple, see the world a little more colorful. People only know black and/or white, nothing in between. I just want to show that there is another way.

LC – Do you agree with our vision of art and what do you think about the theme of the exhibition?
PR –
I love the modern one. Perfect for my painting style.

LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
PR –
Yes, I definitely think so internationally. This is my first exhibition here, I’ll be surprised to see what happens next.

LC – What do you think about the ITSLIQUID platform?
PR –
I can’t say much about it yet, as I said, I am very surprised, and so far I’m very satisfied. I had my concerns at the beginning, but they were completely unnecessary.

LC – What are your suggestions about our services? Is there anything else we can offer artists?
PR –
I’m really stumped so far. I think everything is great. We can be happy that such platforms exist. That people have the opportunity to exhibit their works of art here.

Hey, I'm Franka, a creative soul with a diploma in design from Zagreb Faculty of Architecture. My journey has taken me through years of experience in design to becoming CEO and founder of Idearium Lab., a compact design studio where we take your ideas to reality. Beyond the world of design, I'm an art aficionado with a love for painting and music. My brush and my canvas are my expression tools where I let out all of my emotions, all in collection of swipes. Speaking of music, I'm also in love with music. Piano is my expression tool as well. With any spare time left, I always play piano. Read more
