Interview: Pedro Kubrick
Luca Curci talks with Pedro Kubrick during CONSCIOUSNESS, second appointment of ANIMA MUNDI 2024, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.
My artistic name is Pedro Kubrick and I am a digital artist specialising in creating immersive 3D artworks for both personal collections and large exhibitions. I started this artistic path in 2021 always passionate about the futuristic vibes that are reflected in my artworks.

Luca Curci – How important is the editing process in your work? How’s yours?
Pedro Kubrick – Editing in this field is fundamental to achieving the desired results. It involves perfecting and refining the visual and conceptual details of the work. The editing process for my futuristic 3D digital art encompasses various stages, including creating three-dimensional models, adjusting lighting, color, and special effects, as well as composing the overall scene. This involves reviewing and modifying elements such as geometry, textures, shading, and rendering to achieve the desired effect. During editing, I also experiment with different perspectives, playing with various elements to create a unique atmosphere and emotions. In some cases, this may involve incorporating additional polygons, always accompanied by music to collectively convey the energy and dynamics I want to communicate in my work. In summary, the editing process in my futuristic 3D digital art is crucial for refining and perfecting the piece, ensuring that each aspect contributes to the overall artistic vision and the viewer’s experience. It is through careful editing that maximum visual and conceptual impact can be achieved in this exciting and dynamic art field.
LC – How did you get to your current artistic practice?
PK – From an early age, I had an interest in digital art. However, it was during the pandemic and lockdowns that I decided to start creating my own digital works through 3D modelling software. At that time, I was already experimenting with digital design techniques due to my work as an audiovisual designer at the digital advertising agency Jelly, where I designed many of the assets for artists’ releases for the music label Sony Music, creating various content for their social media. Thus, in 2021, I started dedicating time to my digital artworks, and I am very happy with the results I have achieved so far.

LC – What’s your background?
PK – I studied Audiovisual Communication, which allowed me to develop in a broad field where I could work. Later, I studied for a specialized diploma in the digital area of postproduction and 3D, which led me to focus on 3D audiovisual design. Then I began working in advertising agencies on mass spots for seven years. For the past six years, I have been working at a digital advertising agency, creating audiovisual pieces for artists for Sony Music Chile. All these years of experience in the field allowed me to dedicate my free time to digital art, which is what I love most. Someday, I want to dedicate myself exclusively to creating my digital works and moving people with these visuals. My thoughts always revolve around the universe, creation, rebirth, and how humans evolve and can become better people. All these futuristic questions are always present in my works, creating new worlds and expanding the understanding of the phenomena present in our universe. My works have been exhibited in various parts of the world: in 2023, I was in Times Square NY thanks to the British magazine Artist Talk, in Toronto at the Future Showcase of the Blockchain Futurist Conference 2023 curated by Untraceable Inc., and in Bogotá thanks to the Argentine digital gallery Artbag, which put my works up for sale as NFTs at the Estéreo Picnic festival in 2020. I also participated as an artist in imnotArt NFT Gallery in Chicago in 2021, in the UK Artist Talk magazine in the same year, and the Japanese magazine 365 ART + Magazine number 48, about the surreal world in tattoo art in 2023. Today I am happy to be exhibiting in Venice through ITSLIQUID.

LC – What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
PK – The most influential experience has been the broad understanding of life in the vastness of the universe we belong to. Along with this, the duality of connecting through digital language, creating patterns, textures, and neon colors always linked with a good sound base that expresses the emotions, detail, and beauty in motion that I want to communicate to people.
LC – What do you think about art on social media?
PK – It is a fascinating and powerful manifestation of human creativity in the digital age. I find that there has been a decentralization of art in general, and thanks to this, the world is connected with great artists and a tremendous diversity that surprises us, making it possible for various artists to share their work with a global audience. Social media allows artists to connect with each other and with their audience in a way that was not possible before. Social media acts as a positive force that has transformed how we interact with art and how artists share and promote their work.

LC – Are they turning into the new showcases of contemporary art?
PK – I totally agree! Social media is playing an increasingly important role as showcase for digital art. Social media provides a unique opportunity to interact directly with artists and their work. Followers can leave comments, ask questions, and even purchase works directly through platforms like Instagram.
LC – What are the three hashtags essential to define your poetics that you could not give up?
PK – #digitalart #colors #scifiart

LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
PK – Yes, my works focus on science fiction and futurism, providing an exciting foundation to explore imaginary worlds with vibrant neon colors, advanced technology, and futuristic landscapes. This makes me reflect on contemporary situations in a distinctive visual style that captures the imagination of my audience.
LC – Your last artistic production attracted us, has the artwork presented been created for the exhibition or as a part of preexisting works?
PK – Although my work “Born This Way” already existed, I wanted to rethink its environment with a dome of small robots surrounding the character, introducing a new layer of meaning and dynamism to the piece. This explores themes such as technological dependence, human-machine integration, and the coexistence we experience today, inviting viewers to reflect on issues like the relationship between humans and technology.

LC – What do you think about the concept of this exhibition? How did it inspire you?
PK – It sounds fascinating and deeply reflective. The idea of ANIMA MUNDI as the invisible energy that permeates all-natural and artificial elements invites us to reflect on our relationship with nature, our responsibility towards the planet, and our connection with the cosmos as a whole. This inspired me to think about the connection of my artwork “Born this Way” and how it speaks of the birth of an evolved being in another part of this cosmos, and how we are all connected despite the distances that separate us. I feel it is an opportunity to explore themes of interconnection, balance, transformation, and the eternal quest for knowledge and understanding that the different works in this exhibition with their wide diversity delivered.

LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID Group can represent an opportunity for artists?
PK – Absolutely, ITSLIQUID represents a valuable opportunity to increase our visibility, connect with other artists and art professionals, and exhibit our work to a broader audience. For me, these connections can lead to opportunities for collaboration, idea exchange, and professional growth in my digital art career.
LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?
PK – I greatly enjoyed this cooperation; it was an enriching and rewarding experience, especially working on a creative project like futuristic digital art. All this gave me the opportunity to share different ideas and perspectives, taking my work to new levels. I really enjoyed creating a unique creative synergy in this exhibition, where ideas and energy feed off each other, resulting in more dynamic and exciting works of art for the entire audience present.
