Interview: Regina Heiser
Luca Curci talks with Regina Heiser during the 15th Edition of VENICE INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2022, at Palazzo Bembo.

Born in Darmstadt, she trained as a kindergarten teacher, a commercial artist and an interior designer. She studied art history and psychology and attended further training courses in art therapy, systemic coaching and brand psychology. She worked as a personality trainer, as a commercial artist and as a freelance artist in Bremen and Darmstadt. In painting, she deals with color and the blurring of the same, with the same, with the layer-by-layer application of paint, the repeated removal of color, and the removal of paint, all while taking into account the various degrees of drying. The subjects are architecture, American realism, design of rooms, photographs and covers, the mathematics of color application and psychology and omission. From this, she draws inspiration for her paintings. The installations are characterized by the adversities of social life and the complexity of everyday life.

Luca Curci – What is your background? What experience has most influenced your work?
Regina Heiser – I am a graduate of Freie Kunstakademie Frankfurt, commercial artist, interior designer, coach. Dealing with colors, nature, the beauty of things, perspectives, visual axes, designs, covers, architecture and psychology.

LC – What thoughts go through your mind when you paint? Do you have any habits or rituals while you work?
RH – I often listen to music while I do it, I’m usually in flow and just thinking about what I’m doing, so completely in the here and now and listening to my intuition about what should happen next.

LC – Do the visitors’ suggestions enrich you and your art?
RH – The suggestions and comments enrich my work a lot. I always find it very exciting what visitors say about my paintings.

LC – How do you feel when you see your work completed?
RH – Totally fulfilled and enriched, it makes me happy and proud.

LC – Where do you get your inspiration?
RH – From the environment, nature, my surroundings, what I find beautiful, thoughts I share with people and social issues.

LC – We were attracted by your last artistic production. Was the exhibited artwork created for the exhibition or as part of an existing work?
RH – The work is part of an existing series “schichtweise” in which the aim was to blend colors and color combinations.

LC – What do you think about the organization of our event?
RH – The organization was great, one person took care of all the contracting and gave helpful tips for sending the pictures.

LC – What is your idea of the ITSLIQUID GROUP?
RH – I am very happy to be part of it as an artist and about the fact that you offer the possibility of an exhibition for less known artists and the marketing that is behind it.

LC – Do you think that ITSLIQUID GROUP can be an opportunity for artists?
RH – I have not been to an ITSLIQUID exhibition myself, but I hope that the circle of visitors will be large and that there will be many curators and gallery owners there as well. That can definitely be a great opportunity for artists.
