Interview: Ruri Matsumoto
Luca Curci
 talks with Ruri Matsumoto during ROME INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 6th edition at Medina Art Gallery, Rome.

Ruri Matsumoto was Born in 1981 in Tokyo, Japan. Actually, she is living and working in Germany, in the city of Düsseldorf.  She started studying Fine Arts and Music in Japan in 2000 and then his passions and studies led her to move to Germany. In the latest years, Matsumoto took part in several exhibitions worldwide and won Artist Residence in Berlin and South Korea. For an Artist like Ruri Matsumoto, the most important themes in his paintings are the perspective and the color visual effects, Matsumoto affirmed that the space depicted in his works is a place related to his fantasy space and creativity and the only way to perceive those spaces is through the colors. The most important themes in her paintings and studies are perspective and color visual effects. Ruri Matsumoto also describes the space described in her work as a place that is related to her or a fantasy space. She is able to perceive space and try to express it with colors.

Luca Curci – What are you currently working on? Ruri Matsumoto – I am working on a painting for this year’s solo exhibition.

LC – How much has the city/country in which you grew up/born affected your work as an artist? RM – The city and country I grew up in formed the basis of my work. The history and culture of my country have influenced my identity.  My country’s customs influence the way I look at things and the way I think when I create works.

LC – What issues do you intend to deal with in the future? RM – My future task is to respond to the times, circumstances, and psychological changes while creating my works, to be inspired by various things, and to be useful in the development of my work.

LC – Which art themes do you pursue? What is your preferred subject, if there is any? RM – The themes of my work are space, light and color. I am interested in expressing these elements in various media.

LC – Did your style change over the years? In which way? RM – yes. While creating the work, various problem definitions and discoveries were made, and the style and materials changed accordingly.

LC – Do you agree with our vision of art and what do you think about the theme of the exhibition? RM – Agree. I think the theme of the exhibition is very interesting.

LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists? RM – Yes.

LC – Did you enjoy cooperating with us?  RM – Yes.

LC- What is your idea about ITSLIQUID GROUP? RM – Very innovative.
