Interview: Selene’s Art
Luca Curci talks with Selene’s Art during Venice International Art Fair 2021, at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.
Selene is a contemporary artist based in Veldhoven, the Netherlands. Her passion and dedication for art began in 2013 when she started expressing her emotions through abstract art. Although primarily an autodidact, she has also improved her portrait and landscape skills by taking private classes with several well-established German & Dutch painters. She is a member of NABK (National Association for Visual Artists, in The Netherlands), where she regularly takes part in art fairs such as Art Eindhoven and the Nationale Kunstdagen. She is also a member of BOK (Professional Organisation of Artists, also in The Netherlands). Selene’s colorful artworks can be seen in several online galleries such as Singulart, Saatchi, Artmajeur, and Kunst in het rond Veldhoven.

Luca Curci – What are you currently working on?
Selena Art – I am an alchemist at heart, so at the moment, I am trying to develop new techniques involving spray paint, liquid acrylic paint, and golden pigments.
LC – What are your thoughts while you paint? Do you have any habits or rituals while you work?
SA – Since I paint intuitively, the less I think about what I am doing, the better the work gets. As far as rituals go, music is always in the background and for the rest is just me and the canvas (and sometimes my cats).

LC – Where do you find your inspiration? and What is the message linked to the artwork you have shown in this exhibition? How is it connected to the theme of the entire festival?
SA – I see my work as an expression of the forces churning in my unconscious mind and I routinely write down my dreams, which provide the inspiration for my art. Nature is as well, a great source of inspiration, and the landscapes exhibited at the Venice Art Fair 2021 are inspired by the scenery found in the Eifel area in Germany.
LC – What is your creative process like?
SA – My creative process starts with some textural elements followed by transparent layers of paint, in the pursuit of light, depth, and harmony.

LC – Do visitors’ suggestions enrich yourself and your art?
SA – I do follow other people’s suggestions regarding art when I am creating a commission. I try to enter their mental space and implement their ideas onto the canvas. For the rest of the time, I am following my intuition.
LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform? and Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
SA – Participating in art festivals such as Venice Art Fair is a fantastic way to get young artists to get visibility of their artworks. The ultimate goal of any artist is, after all, spreading art all over the world and enriching people’s lives. And that’s exactly what ITSLIQUID GROUP is doing.
LC – Would you suggest a collaboration with us? What do you think about our services?
SA – Joining Venice Art Fair has been an excellent platform for me as an artist and for that, I thank the team of ITSLIQUID for their support and advice in getting everything right.
