Interview: Seung Yo
Luca Curci talks with Seung Yo during CONTEMPORARY VENICE 2023 – 12th edition, held in Venice at Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello.

Seung Yo is an artist from Korea; her work began after watching a television programme that made her aware of the single-use plastics that are used and thrown away every day. From that moment on her research focuses on the contaminated landscape and her work becomes an act of discarding, as if it were emotional waste.

Luca Curci – What are the three hashtags essential to define your poetics that you could not give up?
Seung Yo – According to me, three essentials are #Human, #Environment, and #Moment!

LC – Where do you find your inspiration?
SY – I find my inspiration in calmness or in travelling; sometimes books also inspire me.

LC – What is the trigger that leads you to paint?
SY – I’ve been pushed to this practice by the urgency of finding myself; this brought me to painting.

LC – Which artists have somehow had an influence on your work?
SY – I have been influenced by very different artists, starting from Marcel Duchamp, through David Hockney, till Mark Rothko and many more!

LC – What do you think about the concept of this exhibition? How did it inspire you?
SY – The “future landscape” concept is a story about changing and about the environment, and I think that everyone can think about it: it gave me a lot of emotions to process.

LC – We were attracted by your last artistic production, has the artwork presented been created for the exhibition or as a part of preexisting works?
SY – Among my existing works, I selected those that mostly get along with the exhibition theme.

LC – Would you suggest a collaboration with us? What do you think about our services?
SY – I would like to cooperate as much as possible with you, developing further skills and living up to expectations.

LC – What is your idea about ITSLIQUID GROUP?
SY – I consider this as a professional group and I believe that our relation will develop further more in the future.
