Interview: Sima Malekzadeh
Luca Curci talks with Sima Malekzadeh during ANIMA MUNDI FESTIVAL 2019 – CONSCIOUSNESS at Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi.
I’m Sima Malekzadeh, a painter from Iran. I was born on 1987 and grew up in a great city, Shiraz. I have interest in art, specially painting from childhood which was encouraged by going to painting class and met my teacher Ladan. I always wanted to be a painter. Nevertheless, I was graduated in architecture at first and then I continued my education in painting and took my master’s degree. I have been working in my atelier since I was educated, and I participated in some exhibition in Iran, Italy and France.
Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Sima Malekzadeh – I think art is simple and complex at the same time. It has surrounded us delicately in different kinds and for me mostly in images. Images are the most meaningful part of the world for me to think about and work with. Everything has an image for me, every sense, every sound or concept. I can not explain what art is but I can say that we can understand it more and more by growth of our perception.
LC – What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
SM – There are many factors influenced me such as nature, literature, history, philosophy, music and cinema. However my culture and specially its visual representation are the major ones.
LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
SM – My works mostly focus on feminism as the concept always occupies my mind.
LC – How is being an artist nowadays?
SM – It’s not easy to be an artist, specially from financial view. As an artist, I want to develop my art which needs time and effort, on the other hand exhibiting my paintings in credible galleries and sale of them is a real challenge. Nevertheless I’m really happy to do what I want.
LC – We were attracted by your last artistic production, has the artwork presented been created for the festival or as a part of preexisting works?
SM – The work is from a series I’m working on it during one and a half year ago until know and it’s still continuing.
LC – What do you think about the concept of this festival? In which way did it inspire you?
SM – The concept was interesting for me. It makes me to think about the environment more seriously.
LC – What are your suggestions about our services? Is there something more we can provide to artists?
SM – I think it was better if you inform me sooner that my work has been accepted, because I needed more time to send it comfortably.
LC – Do you think ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists?
SM – Of course ITSLIQUID GROUP can represent an opportunity for artists.
