Interview: Susanne Jarlskog
Luca Curci talks with Susanne Jarlskog during CONTEMPORARY VENICE 2021, at THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space.
“Since I was a child, the dream of being an artist has been with me and I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. I have developed by taking various art courses and taught myself by exploring my creativity. My life journey and personal development have led me to the opportunity and courage to dare to take the step to show and reach out with my art. I follow my heart! I want the paintings I create to evoke emotions and that I can inspire others to live life to the fullest and dare to follow their dream. I am a living artist who is happy to inspire and challenge you to live out your dreams. I want to help you live the life you are entitled to by bringing out your full potential, belief in yourself and realizing what amazing qualities and the unique power you possess. With my support, creativity and energy, you can achieve what you have always dreamed of. I am passionate about personal development and seeing people grow. Through creative coaching and conversation counseling, I make you dare to take the step and find your right place in life. In my conversations, I invite several of the body’s intelligence, to effectively arrive at which sustainable solutions are right for you”.
LUCA CURCI – What’s your background? What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
SUSANNE JARLSKOG – My whole family on my Mom’s side are artists, musicians, silversmiths. Several of them are famous in Scandinavia. Mom had a lot of charisma. I have inherited some of my mother’s charisma. Not so Swedish, ahahah. Swedes are usually pretty reserved. Courageous. See this in my work, I challenge myself. I go my own way. Inspired by many artists. All kinds of art is interesting. I always strive to learn. I started being creative already as a child. Comes from the inside, my intuition, never know where it is going to end up. Going inside my bubble.
LC – Which subject are you working on?
SJ – I am self-employed, where I work as an artist and I help people in personal development by coaching. I love my day every day, I do everything I love to do. I`m so grateful. Happy and positive person. Curious and creative. Love to help other people. Love life. Easy to turn things around, everything is possible.
LC – Can you explain something about the artwork you have in our exhibition?
SJ – I saw energy a woman and since we are energy she was called an abbreviation of energy Engi. My technique for my painting Engi: Acrylic paint. I pour paint, then angle the canvas. Chalk and acrylic pen. Silicon oil.
LC – Are your artworks focused on a specific theme?
SJ – I often paint naked female bodies. Wanted to make a painting about energy. We are a part of the universe, we are all together, vibration, energy. We are one. I saw that I had made this energy, through a female body. Feel the energy. We, as humans, are energy. A body in energy. Positive energy. Everything is energy.
LC – How do you feel when you see your work completed?
SJ – I feel so happy, sometimes I get surprised at myself and wonder, how did I manage to get this painting because I paint from my intuition.
LC – Which is the role the artist plays in society? And contemporary art?
SJ – Today’s art is easier to reach out to the world because of social media. Amazing is that we can learn and are inspired by each other and the infinite knowledge of all the technology that we were not given the opportunity to be a part of in the past. We find it easier to reach out and create new artist colleagues. I also see art as unlimited and interesting, so nothing is impossible as long as you go inside, be playful and creative, nothing is wrong, there is art for everyone. When you create something creative can you also heal your soul and help people with mental health. It`s never too late to star using your creative side, nothing is impossible.
LC – What do you think about the concept of this exhibition? How did it inspire you?
SJ – It is inspiring to have the opportunity to exhibit your art. It creates experience, curiosity and development. I like different concepts, it makes me challenge myself and the chance to show my paintings.
LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
SJ – ITSLIQUID is a professional platform to showcase its art around the world. I am happy and grateful that I have had the opportunity to participate in the CONTEMPORARY VENICE exhibition.
LC – What do you think about the organization of our event?
SJ – I am very satisfied and think that it had been handled very well.
