Interview: Trudes Wright
Luca Curci
talks with Trudes Wright, during BODYSPACES – CANVAS ART FAIR 2023 held at THE LINE Contemporary Art Space.

Born in London, England in 1980, the self-taught artist embarked on a remarkable artistic journey during the midst of the global lockdown. Seeking solace and respite from the chaotic world surrounding her, painting emerged as a source of inspiration and distraction, granting her a newfound inner peace, harmony, and tranquillity. With minimal academic achievements and wavering motivation from her earlier school years, she took a decisive step and enrolled in a local evening class, seeking to connect with fellow artists and acquire novel and captivating painting techniques. This transformative experience bolstered her confidence and provided the much-needed encouragement to pursue an online B.A. (Hons.) degree in painting unimaginable aspiration that became a reality. Through her artwork, Trudy consistently communicates her emotions positively and profoundly, allowing her innermost sentiments to manifest on canvas. Notably, her dedication and talent were acknowledged with a certificate of merit, recognizing her exceptional participation in the esteemed international selection of the Luxembourg Art Prize in 2022. Art remains an ongoing voyage of self-discovery and expressionism as well as a spiritual practice for Trudy, an enduring passion that she hopes will inspire and empower others to persevere and pursue their dreams.

Luca Curci – What is art for you?
Trudes Wright –
Art is a voyage into my inner world, a way of manifesting my emotions and connecting with the divine. As I paint, I let go of my mind and surrender to the flow of life that moves me. Each stroke is a unique expression of the moment, never to be repeated again.

LC – What is the role the artist plays in society and contemporary art?
TW –
With visual and artistic flair, present their vision as a gift to others, hoping to spark their imagination and move their hearts and challenge them to look within themselves.

LC – What is your creative process like?
TW –
I let my imagination run wild, inspired by the sparks of inspiration that surround me. From the melodies of nature to the calm of meditation, I draw out and portray my inner visions with passion & energy.

LC – What do you think about the concept of this festival? In which way did it inspire you?
TW –
This festival is a superb opportunity to showcase your artistic vision. I am fascinated by the dynamism and diversity of the human form. This inspired me to produce an art piece that explores the various shapes that our bodies can generate.

Hey, I'm Franka, a creative soul with a diploma in design from Zagreb Faculty of Architecture. My journey has taken me through years of experience in design to becoming CEO and founder of Idearium Lab., a compact design studio where we take your ideas to reality. Beyond the world of design, I'm an art aficionado with a love for painting and music. My brush and my canvas are my expression tools where I let out all of my emotions, all in collection of swipes.
