Interview: Jean-Marie Bidet
Luca Curci talks with Jean-Marie Bidet, winner of ARTIST OF THE MONTH – SEPTEMBER 2021.
Born in Menton in 1952 (Alpes-Maritimes, France) lives and works in Switzerland. His studio is located in Chambrelien, canton of Neuchâtel and it is in self-taught that he expresses himself in painting, engraving and stained glass creations since 1984. Currently, his work is focused on researching the origin of writing. Various materials, such as newsprint or shredded paper, Japanese paper, grains of rice or barley and sometimes plant structures, complete his works.
LUCA CURCI – What is art for you?
JEAN-MARIE BIDET – A subtle way to express your dreams.
LC – What’s your background?
JMB – I’m an autodidact.
LC – What is the experience that has influenced your work the most?
JMB – The meeting with Soulages and Zao-Wou-ki in 1972.
LC – Which is the role the artist plays in the society? And contemporary art?
JMB – Showing things that don’t exist. To play with the material.
LC – What is your creative process like?
JMB – I work with music and the inspiration comes from nature and the cosmos.
LC – Did your style change over the years? In which way?
JMB – It became more meditative.
LC – How do you choose your subjects? Is it a reasoned or an instinctive process?
JMB – I let myself be carried away by the shapes, the colors according to the mood of the moment.
LC – What do you think about ITSLIQUID Platform?
