At Kakimori we celebrate the joy of writing. We are a stationery shop creating tools for the joy of writing. We collaborate with Japanese workshops and craftspeople to develop enduring original designs to be cherished for generations, and share them with those across the world. At our shop in Kuramae, Tokyo, you can design your own one of a kind notebooks and inks, and explore a selection of considered goods. The act of sharing. Our home is one of Tokyo’s old shitamachi (downtown) neighbourhoods. Craftsmanship remains well and truly alive, with small manufacturing workshops and factories lining the streets. Work and daily life exist in close proximity and there is a strong sense of community. The neighbourhood is often talked about as a place that embraces both old and new. Kakimori has been nurtured by the area and its people since the day we began.

Our place in this neighbourhood. As enthusiasts for sharing the joy of writing, we imagine ourselves as storytellers within our neighbourhood. At the forefront of what we do is making people happy, whether it be through customer service, design or manufacturing. We honour feedback and ideas from customers and take a collaborative approach with suppliers and manufacturers, working together to create products we can all be proud of. As times change, we wish to remain open to possibilities and continue to carry out our best work.

Kakimori ink: our pigment inks have been developed in an ongoing partnership with Japanese colour specialists Turner Colour Works. The inks can be blended with one another, and are designed to minimise clogging in nibs. The classic 10 colours  are inspired by Japanese word play and imagery. Dip pen: we have reimagined the classic dip pen, presenting an exciting writing tool infused with a touch of nostalgia. Dip the nib in ink and craft your words with care, focus and a sense of immersion. From the moment the nib touches the ink to the final rinse in water, savour each intentional, rewarding moment. Frost: crafted to enrich the joy of everyday writing, Frost is a labour of love, wrapped in translucence. Like a work of art or nature, its presence alone inspires, bringing stillness and pleasure to ordinary moments. Gentle on the eye, industrial yet charming, a delight to hold and write with – it’s a writing tool that captures the essence of Kakimori.
