Kibbutz House by Henkin Shavit Studio

Israeli design studio Henkin Shavit designed this bright and welcoming house for a young couple living in a kibbutz community in northern Israel. With an emphasis on the house’s social functions and the owners’ plans to start a family in the near future, the house was given ample space for entertaining guests and for additional children’s rooms.

Situated on the ground floor, the lobby area also incorporates the kitchen and was designed as the heart of the house where many guests can gather and spend time comfortably. Upstairs, all the rooms feature concrete floors and slanted wooden ceilings painted white – as a result, both floor and ceiling generously reflect the ample Mediterranean light coming through the windows. The house’s master bedroom, also on the upper floor, was designed as a roomy loft, with its own bathroom, makeup unit and wardrobe.

Natural oak, transparent glass, iron, steel and soft thick-woven fabrics complete the palette of materials used in the interior, with their combinations creating a reassuring atmosphere resulting in a cosy private residence which also manages to reflect the spirit of a new generation living in the kibbutz.
