Jewels by ma.ja are made with love and passion for basic structure, smartness and minimalist attitude. As the designer behind the brand, Markéta Janků says, “I always try to investigate the fundamental system of things“. Discover what this simplicity means – playful ideas, fascination with shapes, beauty of soul, melody of colours, lightness of being. Each jewel comes as a precisely hand-cut piece in a limited collection.

Extremely comfortable to wear, the jewels feature materials of typical lightness, such as anodized aluminium, surgical steel, glass, rubber and plastic, all combined in a clever game of materials forming an eternal and distinctive personal amulet. Anodizing, a special protective surface treatment will make sure your jewel keeps excellent colour stability.

A young designer from the North of the Czech Republic, Markéta Janků graduated from Technical University in Liberec in study course Design of fashion accessories and interior objects and later earned her Master’s degree at University of J. E. Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem in the Glass Atelier. Since 2011, she has been creating free-lance under the brand name ma.ja. The brand specializes in jewels and is run solely by Markéta herself, her work ranging from designing jewels through the actual creation to promotion, including graphics and photography.

Her bachelor’s work – interior light objects – was awarded The Prize of Preciosa Foundation 2008 and in 2007, she won the first prize in The Week of Ideas workshop held by Jablonex Group. She presented her work at International Glass Symposium 2008 in Skalice, Slovakia and at International Jewel Symposium Glass Bead 2008 in Jablonec nad Nisou. Her glass objects and jewels have been on display in the Prague Belvedere, The North Bohemian Museum in Liberec, the N Gallery in Jablonec nad Nisou.
