The iconic Torre Glòries, a landmark of Barcelona’s 21st-century skyline, is now permanently open to the public, offering a unique and innovative cultural experience that goes far beyond a traditional 360-degree viewing platform. The Mirador Torre Glòries invites visitors to explore Barcelona from a new perspective, transforming the act of observation into a multi-sensory journey. Since its opening in May 2022, the Mirador has attracted over 220,000 visitors and has been inducted into the prestigious World Federation of Great Towers alongside structures like the Eiffel Tower and the Burj Khalifa. It has also received multiple awards, including “Most Innovative Venue in Spain 2022″. The project, conceived by MERLIN Properties and developed by Mediapro Exhibitions, aimed to create a local and international landmark that combines leisure and culture.
The journey begins on the first basement floor with “Hyperview Barcelona,” an exhibition that reveals the city’s hidden pulse. Utilizing real-time data, art, science, and technology, this platform presents Barcelona as a living organism. The exhibition is composed of five unique installations: Prologue, which acts as a city tuner; Barcelonians, a non-anthropocentric art piece featuring 132 folded paper sculptures of local species; Atmospheres, an immersive projection showing real-time data about the sky, wind, and sea; and Rhythms, which visualizes the city’s metabolic processes like pollution and traffic. The experience is accompanied by a generative soundtrack called Sirena, created by Maria Arnal and John Talabot, which changes daily based on the city’s atmospheric conditions.
Following the Hyperview exhibition, visitors ascend to the 30th floor to the spectacular Observation Deck. At a height of 125 meters, this vantage point provides breathtaking 360-degree views of the city, from the two main mountains to the coastline, including the Sagrada Família and the 22@ technology district. This space allows visitors to contemplate the city’s harmony and movement, from the clouds to the people below. The Observation Deck serves as a privileged location to admire Barcelona and leads to the final, awe-inspiring part of the experience.
The culmination of the visit is “Cloud Cities Barcelona,” a multi-sensory, walk-in sculpture by acclaimed Argentinian artist Tomás Saraceno. Located in the dome of the tower, this permanent art installation is the first of its kind in southern Europe. The artwork, made of a three-dimensional web of tensile cables, allows participants to climb through it and feel suspended “as if in a cloud”. It invites visitors to reflect on environmental and social justice, challenging traditional viewpoints and promoting a new perspective on interdependence and the urban ecosystem. This immersive installation truly transforms the Mirador Torre Glòries into a space for cultural encounter and critical reflection.
