O JOAO E A MARIA STUDIO
O JOAO E A MARIA are two different persons, two different generations, two different designers, two different point of view. Only one studio. They are based on contrasts, antonyms contrary, disagreement dissimilarity and that’s the balance they found for their project, objects and spaces.
Joao Abreu Valente is a product designer and Maria Pita Guerreiro too, they both studied at faculty of fine arts in Lisbon but in different years.
They found each other later in 2015 and start working together. After, discover they were the perfect team, they formed a duo and created the OJOAOEAMARIA STUDIO. They are now a multidisciplinary studio based in Lisbon, at Bairro Alto, that knocks out any challenge.
Basalt was the main material of PICO LAMP. It was one of the proposals created for the artistic residency at Pico do Refúgio – Casas de Campo, on the Island of São Miguel, in Azores, in January 2015.
Project initiated at the Island of São Miguel in the Azores archipelago in order to work with the local stone – Basalt. Granite was selected as a local stone for exploitation on the “main land“.
It’s a set of bowls and plates that are conceived by manipulating the original oval form of a balloon. It is filled with plaster in order to dry in the deformed shape that we create. The different levels of glaze, dipped in the different dimensions of the bowls, create a set for light and contrast exploration.
It’s a set of kitchen cutting boards silkscreen printed with a representative layout of a paper. Paper is an example of an object that, in one way or another, belongs to each one of us. COPY, PASTE is an attempt to reach the memory, the familiarity and comfort associated with an object.
