World debut: ONGO® Seat
the design stool for active sitting with acoustic feedback

(Stuttgart) Modern man, once a hunter-gatherer who was constantly on the move, is increasingly becoming a “sitter”, suffering from the concomitant lack of exercise and back problems. The background is well known, as is the road to improvement: more exercise and healthy sitting posture. ONGO® GmbH has combined both requirements in its world innovation ONGO® Seat. The ergonomic design stool enables active sitting and so prevents build-up of tension, strengthens the back muscles and improves the posture of the entire body.

The innovation: ONGO® Seat has a ball track integrated in its convex base. The convex shape of the base enables the stool to follow every movement the sitter makes, which is transmitted to the steel ball in the track. The rolling sound of the ball is the acoustic feedback the sitter receives every time the sitting position is altered. Carrying out certain exercises, such as circling the hips, will make the ball rotate full circle around the track. Sitting on an ONGO® Seat can be extended as far as to include a specific and effective back workout that can easily be integrated in the daily routine playfully and with no loss of time –at the office, the gym and at home.

The ONGO® Seat has been nominated for the FOCUS Open 2010 design award.

During product development, biometric measurements and trials with patients were carried out by the Institut für Bewegungsanalyse der Kaiser-Karl-Klinik in Bonn (Institute for Human Motion Analysis of the Karl-Kaiser-Klinik, Bonn).

The results showed that after only four weeks’ active use of the ONGO® Seat increased mobility was detectable. These medical findings formed the basis for the development of the ONGO® Move training program.

The ONGO® Seat differentiates from other ergonomically stools due to its appealing design. It is available in two colors for the body and 12 colors for the seat cover. The ONGO® Seat will be distributed by authorized specialized traders and via internet at ww.ongo.eu/de/shop. Partnerships with gyms, wellness hotels and rehabilitation centers will be established soon.

In 2010 the ONGO® Seat will take part in several trade fairs in Germany and abroad.

In its previous life, this home was a spatially challenged '80s specimen known as a "contemporary." So, instead of razing it, we entirely re-imagined and re-created it to appear as though it was built and designed from scratch. Read more
