The ray of light becomes a brushstroke, the abso- lute darkness becomes a white canvas and blue, for example, becomes yellow. Nothing is what it seems, the photo becomes a painting. Florian Herzog paints with light. In his most recent conceptual series, the artist moves within the photographic principle, i.e. the interplay between the amount of light and time. The special attraction comes from the painting- like character of his method, because traditionally light paintings in long exposure are often known as glistening light trails in front of a dark back- ground, never on a white surface.
