BARCELONA CONTEMPORARY 2025 analyzed the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban settings in contemporary times, through two main sections: MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES.

MIXING IDENTITIES analysed the hidden parts of our identities and their infinite modes of expression, through an immersive experience in the fascinating universe of the labyrinths of our consciousness. While FUTURE LANDSCAPES focused primarily on the concept of boundaries and structures between body, mind and soul, human identity and the city, space and ground, transforming surfaces into an open flow of pure ideas.

The 6th edition of Barcelona Contemporary brings together over thirty international voices to explore identity transformation, the fluid boundaries between body, mind, and environment, and new ways of experiencing the spaces that shape our lives.

Among them, Rosarinho Andrade reimagines the ancient art of weaving through a distinctly contemporary and architectural lens. Her works give renewed meaning to traditional craft, merging structure, geometry, and color into balanced and harmonious compositions. Inspired by both nature and the urban landscape, she conveys order and serenity while translating spatial perception and depth onto two-dimensional surfaces. Deeply attentive to material quality, Andrade favors sustainable Portuguese fibers, celebrating quiet beauty and the cultural memory woven into each thread.

Gaby Roter’s paintings, by contrast, explore the fragile balance between decay and endurance, inviting viewers into a meditative space of introspection. Using ink, acrylic, and precious metal leaf on linen or wood, she turns natural forms into reflections on resilience. Works such as Old Oak, Still There, and Lichen depict wounded trees that persist as silent witnesses to time and transformation. Through expressive gesture and subtle layering, Roter creates textured surfaces that embody the tension between vulnerability and renewal.

A related sensibility – rooted in observation and stillness – defines the photography of Christopher B. Fowler. Entirely self-taught, Fowler approaches the camera with an analog spirit, avoiding manipulation and relying on the purity of light and composition. His images focus on form, texture, and structure, transforming ordinary scenes into meditations on perception. By revealing the quiet radiance behind physical reality, he captures not spectacle but truth, inviting contemplation through visual honesty.

Based in Toronto, Mira Vujanic creates paintings born from intuition and inner listening. Guided by a dialogue with an unseen energy, her work channels fleeting moments of clarity and freedom into luminous fields of color and motion. Each canvas conveys vitality and presence, transcending individual experience to evoke a sense of shared consciousness. Her art becomes a bridge between the personal and the universal, a quiet expression of spiritual resonance.

Combining technical skill with imaginative freedom, Stephanie Bing transforms classical interiors into vibrant, dreamlike worlds. Her intricate compositions merge collage elements, marine life, plants, and art-historical motifs into richly layered, tapestry-like spaces. By blending baroque furniture, Chinese porcelain, and organic forms, she turns familiar domestic settings into surreal sanctuaries of color and rhythm. Breaking conventional perspective, Bing creates dynamic visual illusions that invite emotional immersion, celebrating beauty as both transformation and pure delight.
