BARCELONA CONTEMPORARY 2025 analyzed the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban settings in contemporary times, through two main sections: MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES.

MIXING IDENTITIES analysed the hidden parts of our identities and their infinite modes of expression, through an immersive experience in the fascinating universe of the labyrinths of our consciousness. While FUTURE LANDSCAPES focused primarily on the concept of boundaries and structures between body, mind and soul, human identity and the city, space and ground, transforming surfaces into an open flow of pure ideas.

The artists featured in the 4th edition of the BARCELONA CONTEMPORARY 2025 offer compelling perspectives on the unseen layers of identity, challenging conventional boundaries and reimagining the fluid spaces where body, mind, and soul converge and evolve: such is the case of Maria Escano‘s artworks, a self-taught artist from Málaga, who channels her lineage into a richly symbolic visual language. Her work, rooted in emotion and identity, weaves bold textures with motifs like florals and masks to evoke the complexity of the human experience. Escano offers a deeply personal yet universal dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression where each piece feels like a quiet poem, an invitation to reflect, connect, and dwell in the spaces words cannot reach.

Meanwhile, Robert Falcone bridges his personal life’s path with music and visual art: through his artistic persona “Elliot,” Falcone revisits the golden age of travel using altered vintage imagery adorned with oil and gold leaf. These dreamlike works evoke nostalgia while quietly questioning its truthfulness, exploring memory, beauty, and illusion with refined insight in a journey that is as introspective as it is enchanting. Also working with photography, Christine Terres‘s pieces captures patterns both vast and minute, revealing hidden harmonies through careful observation and refined composition. Whether viewed from a macro or micro lens, her images invite a quiet contemplation of form, structure, and the often-overlooked beauty that lies between order and chaos.

Set against the backdrop of ITSLIQUID Art Space – Barcelona, “Lights Off”, a dances performance by Alassia Marra, delves into the tension between outward appearance and inner emotion, questioning the forces behind imposed happiness, the interplay of presence and absence, urgency and stillness. Meanwhile, in “Please Not Now”, Daria Barbone explores the disquieting moment when thought overtakes action, trapping the self in an endless inner monologue: powerless, suspended, divided. Her gestures unfold through the body’s resilience, its capacity to both endure and articulate the unspoken, leaving the public as a prisone of his own inner dialogue.

Lavinia de Rothschild’s contribution to the exhibition theme is a poetic meditation on transformation, grief, and resilience, an intimate yet universal reflection on the emotional fabric of existence. Blending abstraction with figuration, her photographs traverse themes of memory, identity, and cultural tension, often using masks, fire, and rituals to explore the fragile space between destruction and rebirth. In her pieces, the artist crafts symbolic tableaux that confront modern disconnection while invoking mythic continuity. Each work becomes a quiet act of revelation, inviting observers to sit with vulnerability, confront impermanence, and rediscover the self within its flickering light.
