The concept of HYBRID IDENTITIES explores the complexities of human identity and the ways in which cultural and ethnic background shape our being, creating a unique blend of different influences that form our identity. We all deal with multiple identities and roles in our everyday lives, which are guided by different social, physical, and cultural factors: we create and adapt our identities based on the situations we find ourselves in, and they evolve and change as we interact with contemporary cultures and modern cities. These changes will create new possibilities which will lead to new and unique identities.

The international featured artists participating in Hybrid Identities, the first event of the Borders Art Fair 2025, explore the concept of the exhibition, a reflection on how cultural, social, and personal influences shape who we are. This is evident inย Samantha Rebrovich‘s oil painting, where she explores the alchemical process of transformation through deeply symbolic and emotionally resonant work. Her practice channels the “Divine Feminine”, engaging archetype, mythology, and nature as vehicles for healing and embodiment. Meanwhile, At Castelo‘s works invite viewers to confront the multiplicity of self through a sculptural installation composed of fractured, angular mirrors. The work reveals not a single image, but fragmented glimpses: in its refusal to flatten the self into one narrative, “Reflection” is both sculpture and process – a threshold through which identity becomes an act of continual becoming.
Nagy Anita conjures a mythic clash between light and dark, an eternal, supernatural struggle rendered through textured acrylics and dynamic form. Inspired by Japanese Oni folklore, the work unfolds as a cosmic battle for the soul: sharp, aggressive strokes in black, yellow, and green on the left confront fluid, ethereal blues and greys on the right. Fragmented shapes suggest that no side dominates, suspending the viewer in an unresolved tension. As in all her work, Anita paints from intuition and emotion rather than reference, creating singular, deeply felt pieces that invite inner reflection and personal interpretation.
Drawing on a slow, deeply intuitive practice rooted in material curiosity and a lifelong habit of upcycling, Marie Puybarudโs sculptures sit delicately between abstraction and figuration, serenity and strength. Shaped from blocks of black clay, her elongated, meditative figures recall ancient orants and idols, evoking ritual, prayer, and quiet contemplation. Waxed and hand-polished, each figure becomes part of a harmonised yet distinct gathering – serene, grounded, and quietly alive. “Snow in Delhi”, an artwork by Grigoriy Ponomarev, is a meticulously carved flint sculpture that masterfully unites natural history with human artistry. Flint, formed over millions of years from the transformation of ancient marine remains, lends the piece a deep geological resonance. The piece reflects the transient beauty of snow alongside the enduring spirit of the city – a unique fusion of natureโs time and artistic vision.

In a culture driven by speed, distraction, and constant connectivity, Gabriele Monte presents his work “Please wait for me, for I shall rise again”, a meditation on attention, presence, and the radical act of waiting. The work asks the viewer not for interaction, but for patience, a quiet, undistracted stillness that has become increasingly rare. At its core, the piece becomes a metaphor for care: the idea that presence itself can be transformative, requires time and reverence. Monteโs installation is not just about resisting immediacy, but about restoring value to slowness, discomfort, and the unmonetizable moment of simply being there.

OUR LOCATION

Palazzo Albrizzi-Capelloย is one of the most well-known palaces of theย Renaissanceย in Venice. It is a historical building dating back to theย 16th century, and it has been owned by several noble Venetian families, as demonstrated by the frescoed ceilings, the artistic stuccos and the fine furniture that enriches its rooms. The Palace welcomes visitors with its beautifulย private gardenย on the ground floor, and then it gathers the guests in its large first-floor salons, in which past and present dialogue together. The restored Old Mastersโย frescoesย and the contemporary art masterpieces that are periodically shown in the exhibitions hosted here makeย Palazzo Albrizzi-Capelloย the perfect location for the balance between old and new, between ancient environment and contemporary art, architecture and design.
Today, the building is managed byย ACIT Veniceย โ the Italian-German Cultural Association โ which is considered one of the most important intercultural associations in Europe. Thanks to the ACIT’s unceasing cultural activity,ย Palazzo Albrizzi-Capelloย nowadays has frequent collaborations with theย Goethe Instituteย and with other local and international institutions, maintaining its ancient reputation. Because of these relations, it presents a huge program of memorable art exhibitions, conferences, congresses and concerts. Among the last institutional exhibitions, is its participation in theย 58th Venice Biennaleย with the Guatemala pavilion, the Dominican Republic pavilion and the Grenada pavilion.ย ITSLIQUID Groupย already had the pleasure to hold some festivals and exhibitions in Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, such as MORPHOS Festival and FUTURE IDENTITIES Festival, both in 2014.
