LONDON CONTEMPORARY is an International Art Fair that presents collective and solo projects by leading and emerging international artists. The 2024 edition represents a forum for the direct exchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers and art professionals. The art fair features paintings, sculptures, photography, installations, video art and live performance.

It analyzed the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban settings in contemporary times.

We invited artists, architects and designers to be inspired by the magical power of London, exploring the connection between desires, needs, and fears through rituals that bring humankind to change, transform and evolve their inner world.

The exhibition became a canvas for Jade KD‘s mesmerizing visual explorations of cosmic phenomena. The self-taught artist from Cambridge employed layers of vibrant inks to craft large-scale abstracts that evoke the mystery and vastness of nebulas and galaxies. The artist’s work, deeply rooted in a fascination with outer space, reflects on the expansive nature of human curiosity and our yearning to explore beyond the visible, tapping into the fair’s theme of the spatial relationship between the cosmos and human perception.

The opening night was furthermore enriched by the enchanting performance of Nancy Trueman, who brought a serene and meditative contrast through her sound healing sessions and yoga practices. As a certified practitioner, she utilized gongs and crystal singing bowls to create soundscapes that resonated within the contemporary urban setting of the fair: her sessions drew upon ancient wisdom to offer a restorative experience, emphasizing the need for an inner balance that echoes the fair’s thematic exploration of identity and space in contemporary society.

By analyzing the interplay between body and space, and the hybridization of identities within various settings, Shelly Hanan and her fine art photography explored the theme of the exhibition by creating a profound narrative around the metaphysical questions of existence and the afterlife. In her “Afterlife” series, displayed at the fair, she wove together black & white negatives of the female form with cosmic imagery, symbolizing a journey of the soul through death into a realm beyond. Her work serves as an invitation to ponder life’s great mysteries, using photography not just as a medium but as a vehicle to explore and question the boundaries between life and death, presence and absence.

London’s vibrant cultural backdrop enriched the display of photographer Beki Cowey, intensifying the raw and personal themes in her work. As attendees navigated the exhibition, they were drawn into Cowey’s gritty world of street and documentary photography, where personal history and urban life collide. Her unique approach – capturing the essence of her rock’n’roll past mixed with religious iconography and esoteric elements – invited a deeper sensory exploration of identity and existence. This blend of the personal with the urban landscape not only highlighted Cowey’s narrative but also showcased how London’s dynamic environment could amplify the emotional impact of her images. Her work, reflecting the depths of human experiences against the backdrop of the city, engaged viewers in a poignant dialogue about life’s contrasts and complexities.
