ANIMA MUNDI is the invisible energy behind all the natural and artificial elements that allow the planet to live. Thanks to the hidden connections of ANIMA MUNDI, all the ecosystems of the Earth, before and after the appearance of mankind, found their equilibrium, their ways to live and to develop themselves, to transform and to evolve. All the beings of the planet, plants, minerals, and animals are permeated by a secret force that has always stimulated human thought and research.

The festival aims to discover these multiple forms of hidden connections between the soul and the body, mankind and the natural elements, the natural spaces and the cities. We invited artists to show their reflections about the various ways in which the ANIMA MUNDI expresses the relationships among all the existing entities and the natural and cultural systems and to represent by their artistic works the processes of the evolution of the world in which we all live. Artists, designers and architects were invited to talk about ANIMA MUNDI through photo reportage of cities, hidden places, photographic documentaries, personal experiences, presenting their works of photography, painting, sculpture/installation, design and architecture, video art and live performance.

RITUALS, first appointment of the event, explored the contemplation on our relationship with the natural world and our role as guardians of the Earth: through diverse techniques and studies, all artists contributed to enrich this topic, providing spectators with a significant journey in the ANIMA MUNDI. Among them, Marco Balbi Dipalma converges creative expression and traditional ritual language: he utilizes video art as a medium to intertwine physicality and action. Each entry into his workspace creates a realm of potentiality, revealing the essence of existence within space. His recent works unravel the intricacies of the self and lived experiences as vibrant landscapes of pulsating emotions: the forms that emerge from inner yearnings imbue space with hues of sentiment. Through each frame, Marco captures the soul’s essence in real-time, illuminating the corporeal vessel with ethereal light, a fleeting moment that embodies the enigmatic essence of being.

A profound exploration of the human experience can be also found in Martha Green Doran‘s art. Her meditative journey, merges sensation with intuition in her paintings: whether in recognizable forms or abstract expressions, she embraces the mystery of creation, trusting the artistic process; with each stroke, she discovers new revelations, allowing the painting to find its own narrative.

The exhibition showcased a curated selection of performances, each designed to envelop spectators in the artistry of the performer’s scenario, set against the enchanting backdrop of Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, which provided an ideal setting that harmonized with the eclectic tastes of the international contemporary art community, seamlessly blending the Renaissance ambience of the palace with the dynamic atmosphere of the 60th Venice Biennale of Art, one of the foremost events of the year. Rejecting the confines of religion, Mashiro Nakamura finds resonance in the tradition of senbazuru, the folding of a thousand paper cranes, as a form of prayer and remembrance. Drawing from personal experience, Nakamura substitutes cranes with goldfish, a homage to their grandmother’s tradition of folding hundreds of goldfish: the final act of the ritual culminates in the release of these goldfish into the waters of Venice, intertwining memory, tradition, and reverence, inviting viewers to reflect on the interconnectedness of life and loss.

Echoing the timeless harmony of ANIMA MUNDI, the series “Egonia” by the Serbian artists Maja Dimitrijevic and Dijana Vujacic, celebrates the power of collaborative creativity to forge deep emotional connections and unveil the mysteries of the soul. Through the silent dialogue of two Egos, the project delves into the interconnectedness of human consciousness and the natural world: each artwork, born from a ritualistic process, becomes a vessel for expressing the hidden connections between souls, transcending verbal communication to evoke profound emotions and insights, inviting viewers to contemplate their own identity and connection to the world.

OUR LOCATION

palazzoalbrizzicapello 001 1

Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello is one of the most known palaces of the Renaissance in Venice. It is a historical building dating back to the 16th century, and it has been owned by several noble Venetian families, as demonstrated by the frescoed ceilings, the artistic stuccos and the fine furniture that enriches its rooms. The Palace welcomes visitors with its beautiful private garden on the ground floor, and then it gathers the guests in its large first-floor salons, in which past and present dialogue together. The restored Old Masters’ frescoes and the contemporary art masterpieces that are periodically shown in the exhibitions hosted here, make Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello the perfect location for the balance between old and new, between ancient environment and contemporary art, architecture and design.

Today the building is managed by ACIT Venice – the Italian-German Cultural Association – which is considered one of the most important intercultural associations in Europe. Thanks to the ACIT unceasing cultural activity, Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello has nowadays frequent collaborations with the Goethe Institute and with other local and international institutions, maintaining its ancient reputation. Because of these relations, it presents a huge program of memorable art exhibitions, conferences, congresses and concerts. Among the last institutional exhibitions, is its participation in the 58th Venice Biennale with the Guatemala pavilion, the Dominican Republic pavilion and the Grenada pavilion. ITSLIQUID Group already had the pleasure to hold some festivals and exhibitions in Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, such as MORPHOS Festival and FUTURE IDENTITIES Festival, both in 2014.
