Hosted at the prestigious ITSLIQUID Art Space – Trastevere, set within a stunning 15th-century palace in the beating heart of Rome’s most authentic and artistic district, the opening night welcomed a vibrant international crowd, creating an unforgettable atmosphere filled with energy, inspiration, and creative dialogue. Acting as a real crossroads for creators from all over the world, this prestigious contemporary art event seamlessly blends the timeless character of the past with the most current cultural expressions.

ROME INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2026 explores the intricate relationship between body and space, as well as the ongoing hybridization between identities and cultural, physical, social, and urban contexts in contemporary society. The exhibition is masterfully articulated into two main sections: MIXING IDENTITIES, which investigates the hidden dimensions of who we are and the countless ways in which identity can be expressed, and FUTURE LANDSCAPES, which focuses on the notion of boundaries transforming everyday surfaces into a fluid continuum of open, evolving ideas.

Across this extraordinary selection of visionaries, contemporary visual practice unfolds as a breathtaking, continuous negotiation between perception, memory, emotion, and transformation. The journey through the exhibition begins with the striking works of Karolina Sávolt, whose precocious and brilliant artistic vision captures the essence of youth and deep emotional landscapes, blending vibrant figuration with a mature sense of composition that instantly engages the viewer.

This fresh, intuitive energy flows naturally into the canvas of Donaldo, where delicate strokes and textures navigate the subtle borders between inner consciousness and the outer physical world, mirroring the core philosophy of the Mixing Identities concept. The profound relationship between personal narrative and visual form deepens even further with Sonyé, whose work translates cultural heritage and individual memory into sensitive, visually arresting compositions that envelop the audience in a rich tapestry of stories.

In a similarly evocative manner, Cynthia Laskodi captures the essence of human transition and spatial harmony, exploring fluid forms that challenge the traditional boundaries between the individual and the surrounding environment. This fascination with material and emotional transformation lies at the absolute heart of Katarzyna Gajek-Filar’s practice, which brilliantly explores the boundaries of identity in the posthuman era. Placing a central figure at an evolutionary crossroads, her work weaves a silent resistance to technological dominance through a rich visual contrast of soft textiles, sculpted gold, and metallic armor. Her canvas powerfully invites us to question whether we are merely masked observers or the final judges of human identity. Danny Johananoff extends the dialogue between physical space and ethereal atmosphere through photography that transforms movement into architectural rhythm. Drawing on Asian cultural traditions, he uses slow shutter speeds to dissolve dancers and celebrations into painterly abstractions of light and color. His work embodies the exhibition’s exploration of Future Landscapes, where body and space merge into a fluid continuum of emotion and memory.

A particularly compelling contribution to the exhibition is presented through the solo show of Giovanni Tozzetti, “LONG WALK FROM AUSTRALIA TO ROMA – E ‘ndo so nato, vissuto, cresciuto e pasciuto“. Conceived as a powerful reflection on the intersections between personal history and collective memory, the project unfolds as a deeply intimate yet universally relatable journey, bridging distant geographies with the enduring significance of cultural roots. Through this evocative visual narrative, Tozzetti explores themes of migration, belonging, and identity, inviting viewers to consider how individual experiences contribute to the construction of shared cultural consciousness. Rooted in a practice that seamlessly intertwines painting and photography, the artist transforms observed reality into a refined pictorial language that preserves the immediacy of the image while amplifying its symbolic and communicative potential. Gestures, symbols, and familiar urban spaces become vehicles of connection, revealing the continuous negotiation between personal narratives and the broader social, cultural, and urban environments that shape contemporary experience.

A similarly lyrical, luminous engagement defines the creations of Rafael Garcia Bartual, whose sharp attention to light and shadow transforms familiar subjects into expressive fields of rhythm, texture, and deep feeling. This search for psychological and formal balance is mirrored in the work of Biljana Bakaluca, who investigates the subtle correspondences between body, mind, and spirit through an exquisite formal balance that guides visitors through a captivating labyrinth of consciousness. Finally, the works of Claus Potthoff bring this magnificent dialogue to a perfect crescendo; his precise, thought-provoking artistic language explores the hybridization of contemporary society, revealing a quiet, majestic beauty rooted in presence and the preservation of human experience. Together, these exceptional practices propose art as an extraordinary space where material, image, and perception harmoniously converge, revealing the intricate, beautiful connections between our inner worlds and the vibrant realities that surround us.
