The 15th edition of ROME INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR represented a forum for the direct exchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers and art professionals, and provided a unique opportunity for artists and exhibitors to present their works to an international audience of art professionals seeking to acquire, publish and encourage the best talents in contemporary art. The exhibition analysed the body-space relationship and the hybridisation between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban contexts in contemporary times, through two main sections: MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES.
MIXING IDENTITIES analysed the hidden parts of our identities and their infinite modes of expression, through an immersive experience in the fascinating universe of the labyrinths of our consciousness. While FUTURE LANDSCAPES focused primarily on the concept of boundaries and structures between body, mind and soul, human identity and the city, space and ground, transforming surfaces into an open flow of pure ideas.

The artists presented in this edition offered a collective reflection on these curatorial paths, weaving together interiority and materiality, energy and ritual, structure and spontaneity. Despite the variety of media and approaches, what united their practices was a shared sensitivity to the spaces we carry within and those we inhabit or imagine around us.
Working with graphite and dry pigment, Kristina Mariinskaya developed a visual language rooted in botanical precision but expanded into the metaphysical. Her delicate, spiraling compositions seem to pulse with invisible forces, echoing the energy fields that connect all living forms. Her approach, suspended between scientific observation and spiritual vibration, resonates with both MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES, embodying a sense of quiet continuity that threads through the exhibition.
A similar dialogue between fluidity and form animates the works of Silvia Pusceddu, whose paintings unfold as layered rituals. Drawing on emotional memory and spontaneous gesture, her pieces offer a kind of cartography of the self – vivid, saturated, and resolved through the symbolic gesture of the black outline. For Pusceddu, painting becomes a grounded act of healing, an intimate choreography of rhythm, line, and release. Echoes of this emotional processing appear in the practice of Lyne Bourgeois, who balances detailed mark-making with intuitive motion. Her ink and acrylic compositions on paper explore the push and pull between peace and challenge, between introspection and expansion. Like Pusceddu, Bourgeois uses the act of creation as a vehicle for transformation, navigating the shifting terrain of identity with quiet strength and grace.

If the mentioned artists explore inner fields and personal energy, Jurgita Baleise pushes us toward the raw materiality of form. Using liquid metals (copper, iron, aluminium) she creates richly textured surfaces that evoke archeological depth and industrial memory. Her compositions suggest maps, symbols, and layered time, making visible what is often left unspoken: the way matter carries history, and how identity can crystallize in texture. Her work grounds FUTURE LANDSCAPES in the tactile, in the physical negotiation between transformation and permanence. In a conceptual yet no less grounded register, Hakan Erkam expands the conversation toward the surreal and the socio-political. His multidisciplinary practice spans painting, photography, and sculpture, and reflects a critical awareness of how structures – ecological, cultural, digital – shape human experience. Like Baleise, Erkam is concerned with surfaces and what lies beneath them, but through a more narrative lens, destabilizing familiar realities and inviting new ones to emerge.
Completing this constellation is Ana Júlia Ribeiro, whose practice challenges the very notion of boundaries. Her “paintings destined for chance” escape the gallery walls, traveling through public space and finding new meaning in the hands of strangers. By embracing unpredictability and refusing to confine her work to a fixed context, Ribeiro blurs distinctions between art and life, artist and viewer, process and result. Her gesture is at once philosophical and generous, anchored in the belief that identity and landscape, like art itself, are ever-evolving and shared.
Together, all the exhibiting artists articulate a vision of contemporary art as a living dialogue between gesture and idea, presence and absence, structure and freedom. Their works do not offer answers, but open spaces: for reflection, for questioning, for reimagining the forms of connection between body, mind, and the world we inhabit.
