The 16th edition of ROME INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR represented a forum for the direct exchange of ideas between artists, photographers, designers and art professionals, and provided a unique opportunity to present their works to an international audience seeking to encourage the best talents in contemporary art. The exhibition analysed the body-space relationship and the hybridisation between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban contexts in contemporary times, through two main sections: MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES.

MIXING IDENTITIES analysed the hidden parts of our identities and their infinite modes of expression, through an immersive experience in the fascinating universe of the labyrinths of our consciousness. While FUTURE LANDSCAPES focused primarily on the concept of boundaries and structures between body, mind and soul, human identity and the city, space and ground, transforming surfaces into an open flow of pure ideas.

Set in the heart of Rome – a city where history and contemporaneity coexist in every street – the 16th edition of ROME INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR unfolded as a living dialogue between identities, landscapes, and the very notion of transformation. The fair staged a collective narrative, starting from Nada Alowaid’s acrylic paintings that opened this journey with pulsating color fields that seemed to echo the city’s layered histories: her canvases were not just expressive but immersive, embodying the labyrinthine consciousness explored in MIXING IDENTITIES while also suggesting, like Rome itself, how personal memory and public space overlap. By blending fine art with interior aesthetics, Nada creates works that do not just exist in space but actively connect with it, offering viewers a sensory and emotional bridge between their own identities and the spaces they inhabit.

In contrast yet in dialogue, Sevim Yildiz presented paintings imbued with a slower, contemplative energy. Rooted in decades of teaching and storytelling, her work exudes a quiet, almost pedagogical intimacy that draws viewers into a state of meditative attention, blurring the threshold between private reflection and collective memory – a gentle counterpoint to the city’s vibrant surface. By inviting the audience to pause and engage in an inner dialogue with her images, Yildiz reimagines the boundary between the personal and the public, revealing how individual narratives are inseparable from broader cultural and social landscapes.

The exhibition also challenged the notion of boundaries in more literal ways. Crystal D Evans contributed layered compositions where narrative fragments seemed to dissolve into urban textures, creating a mental map of how identity can be shaped by place: by merging introspection with social awareness, Evans offers a vivid, human-centered view of contemporary art’s role in connecting individuals to each other and to the spaces they inhabit. This approach resonated with Beast’s monumental interventions: his portraits of historical figures emerging from deteriorating walls recalled Rome’s own palimpsest of ruins and icons. In these pieces, FUTURE LANDSCAPES was not an abstract theme but a lived reality – a reminder that cities are themselves bodies, constantly marked, eroded, and reanimated by collective experience.

Catalin Zetu pushed this dialogue inward, transforming emotional states into tactile surfaces. Works like “Wound” and “Limerance” were not simply about individual pain or desire; they acted as universal metaphors, much like the exhibition’s theme, questioning whether wounds can be healed or if they must remain open to be seen. Her use of relief and dripping introduced a sculptural dimension to painting, reflecting the tension between stability and flow that also defines urban life. Finally, Razan Alammari offered a therapeutic counterpoint, combining expressive realism with symbolic and fantastical elements. Her works did not only depict emotional transformation but enacted it, inviting viewers into spaces where vulnerability could be transmuted into strength – a gesture that mirrored the exhibition’s own mission to turn the fair into a site of healing exchange rather than mere display.

In Rome’s layered environment, these diverse practices did more than coexist: they resonated with one another, amplifying the exhibition’s core questions about identity, space, and the possibility of renewal.
