The 4th Edition of ROME INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR represented a forum for direct exchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers, and art professionals, and provided artists and exhibitors with the unique opportunity to present their works to an international audience of art professionals who seek to acquire, publish and encourage the best contemporary art talents. It analyzed the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban settings in contemporary time, through two main sections: MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES.
MIXING IDENTITIES analyzed the hidden parts of our identities and their infinite ways of expression, through an immersive experience inside the fascinating universe of the labyrinths of our consciousness. While FUTURE LANDSCAPES mainly focused on the concept of the borders and the structures between body, mind and soul, the human identity and the city, the space and the ground, and transforms surfaces into an open flow of pure ideas.

The themes of the exhibition, MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES, were thoroughly elaborated by the various artists and their different perspectives. As for the first one, it was excellently interpreted by Constance Jaeggi, who refers to her project as an intimate personal diary. She turned to photography as a way of centring herself and discovering her purpose: along the line, it evolved into a kind of meditative experience. The final result was a series of works that is inward-looking and collects and captures the feelings and moods she was feeling at the time of Covid. The theme was similarly interpreted by Rika Maja Duevel, who, with her work ‘Things are Not Always What They Seem’, wanted to represent the mind of an introverted artist: sitting still, but on the inside, there is a combination of structured intensity and an element of control, an exploration into determination and an outlook on all the possible potentials of what lies ahead. Through his sculpture ‘Hope’, Dennis Josef Meseg transformed the concept of MIXING IDENTITIES from an individual to a collective experience, reflecting the Covid period we all experienced. His artwork symbolized the comforting faith and hope that at the end of dire times everything will be all right again.

Peter van Loenhout contributed to the reflection on the second theme, FUTURE LANDSCAPES, by demonstrating his strong connection to nature. He paints with the sand and states that the structure of the sand and the colours of the earth blend with the light until a form arises whether man or animal, on paper or on canvas. The topic is also particularly important to Lukas Horst, a German landscape architect: nature is always at the centre of his work and water is a recurring subject in his paintings. The video artists selected have also contributed to the development of the theme, entertaining our visitors with video works.
