ROME INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR represented a forum for the direct exchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers and art professionals, and provided a unique opportunity for artists and exhibitors to present their works to an international audience of art professionals seeking to acquire, publish and encourage the best talents in contemporary art. The exhibition analyzed the body-space relationship and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban contexts in contemporary times, through two main sections: MIXING IDENTITIES and FUTURE LANDSCAPES.

MIXING IDENTITIES analyzed the hidden parts of our identities and their infinite modes of expression, through an immersive experience in the fascinating universe of the labyrinths of our consciousness. While FUTURE LANDSCAPES focused primarily on the concept of boundaries and structures between body, mind and soul, human identity and the city, space and ground, transforming surfaces into an open flow of pure ideas.

Within the exhibition, several artists stood out for their distinctive contributions. Among them, Nilwe‘s thought-provoking series, “My Body,” beautifully intertwined photography and poetry which delve into the intricate connection between the self, the unconscious mind, and the physical body: her works unveiled the complex journey of healing and self-discovery after experiencing trauma, along to the profound sense of self-empowerment that arises from embracing one’s identity. In the same vein, Maria Sofia Palmieri‘s performance merged acting and the traditional Italian dance “Pizzica Tarantata”, which was used to liberate people from internal pain. The immersive performance showcased the transformative power of dance and its therapeutic advantages, creating a powerful expression of personal liberation and emotional release and inviting viewers to explore their own depths through movement.

ITSLIQUID Monti Rome Art Space provided a captivating space for the performance of MohammadKhani‘s “Birth of Light”, which offered a unique opportunity for viewers to reflect on their own transformative experiences and explore the intricate dynamics of self-identity. His piece seamlessly weaved together visual and performative elements, creating an experience that transcends traditional artistic boundaries. By immersing in his performance, visitors were encouraged to question the nature of self, the transformative power of art, and the ways in which different art forms can intersect and inform one another. At the same time, Nicol Francis Hendruk and Helena Lněničková captivated viewers with their unique collaboration, showcasing the interaction between poetry and drawing. Their artwork, displayed on the canvas, demonstrated how emotions can speak different languages yet harmoniously coexist. Through their artistic collaboration, the two artists delved into the realm of inner thoughts that often reside hidden within our unconscious, inviting viewers to explore the depths of their own emotions and contemplate the interconnectedness of human experiences.

The 8th edition of the ROME INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR encapsulated the essence of contemporary art, inviting visitors to contemplate the complexities of identity, the ever-changing nature of our surroundings, and the boundless possibilities of artistic interpretation. In the middle between the two themes of the exhibition, Markella Lousidis‘s exploration of gender and the freedom to transcend traditional constraints created a safe space for individuals to express their identity beyond societal norms, challenging the existing landscape of gender expectations. Lousidis’s work encouraged viewers to question and reevaluate their understanding of gender, ultimately promoting inclusivity and personal authenticity. At the same time, Viviana Di Domenico‘s sculptures offered a unique perspective, challenging preconceived notions by pushing viewers to reconsider their perceptions and assigned destinies, inviting them to reflect on the fluidity and complexity of identities.

Robert Falcone‘s “Le Finestre di Burano” presented an intriguing exploration of the Future Landscapes theme. Through manipulated photographs of decaying facades on the island of Burano, Falcone encapsulated the captivating beauty that emerges from the intersection of time, decay, and transformation, hinting at the potential landscapes that lie ahead. Tara Minds‘ focus on the identity phenomenon in contemporary European societies and her emphasis on the symbiotic relationship with nature aligned perfectly with this concept: through her artwork, Tara called for a return to harmony with the living world, envisioning a future landscape where humans and nature coexist in balance. Her thought-provoking approach invited viewers to reflect on our connection with the possibilities which nature offers and the importance of identifying with the environment.
