The concept of SECRET SPACES explores the hybridization among art, culture, physical and social identities in contemporary times, by providing an immersive experience inside the complex labyrinths of our consciousness: the human body is a changing system that connects us with other bodies and spaces to perceive the surrounding reality, a strong communication system with its own language and infinite ways of expression. By breaking down traditional boundaries between body and space, individual and collective, artists explore and create new hybrid spaces that challenge their own identity to discover new facets of themselves and push beyond the traditional notions of self and identity.

All the participating artists brought their distinct voices to SECRET SPACES, converging in a compelling visual and conceptual dialogue exploring the fluidity of identity, perception, and inner experience. Among them, Elia Bechtel’s organic sculptures invite viewers into a layered subconscious, where natural fractals and symbolic elements mimic the hidden architectures of the psyche. His work bridges inner vision and material form, turning the body and nature into hybrid spaces of emotional and philosophical reflection – an immersive journey through the labyrinth of human consciousness.

While Bechtel explores the thresholds between perception and physical reality, Alexandra Gorev delves into the blurred boundaries between memory and myth, truth and emotion. Using layered glazes, rich textures, and a refined command of light, she constructs liminal worlds where memory, myth, and emotion converge. Her compositions often feature archetypal feminine figures set in surreal ecosystems that mirror inner psychological states where vulnerability becomes monumental and the subconscious is rendered with quiet intensity.

At the heart of the show is a profound investigation of the inner self. Karolina Sávolt, a powerful voice in the group, astonishes with vibrant, emotionally charged works that combine visual impact with a strong ethical mission: her art becomes a space for empathy and healing. Inspired by nature and guided by a deep sense of social responsibility, Karolina’s works aim to spark reflection and promote positive change – each piece is a call to action to care more deeply for the planet, for animals, and for one another. Similarly inviting to reflection and emotional resonance yet pushing the boundaries of traditional formats and methods, Christina Neukäufer explores the intersection of structure and emotion through abstract painting, life drawing, and portraiture. Her work is defined by an experimental use of acrylics, pigments, and bold color compositions that capture the dynamic tension between control and intuition. Trained in product design, she brings a precise approach to visual storytelling, where every brushstroke carries intentional meaning.

As a cultural venue, Palazzo Albrizzi Capello creates a unique dialogue between past and present, providing a captivating setting for SECRET SPACES. Within these timeless halls, the exhibition offers an immersive experience that bridges ancient architecture with cutting-edge artistic explorations of identity, perception, and the body. Wesley Edwards transports viewers to visionary states born from dreams and psychedelics, blending digital precision with acrylic textures to channel archetypal guides inspired by his travels across Latin America and Europe. His hybrid works explore metaphysical themes such as spiritual transformation, inner duality, and cosmic consciousness, functioning as portals to reconnect with imagination and unseen dimensions of the self.

Aurora De Crosta’s photographic practice navigates the intersections of identity and expression, capturing the body as a living, dynamic space. Rooted in her expertise in fashion history and shaped by her experience as a dancer, her images evoke movement, emotion, and transformation. Through cinematic lighting and pose, De Crosta frames fashion as a form of embodied storytelling, revealing how style and gesture become extensions of personal and cultural identity within shifting social spaces.

OUR LOCATION

palazzoalbrizzicapello 001 1

Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello is one of the most well-known palaces of the Renaissance in Venice. It is a historical building dating back to the 16th century, and it has been owned by several noble Venetian families, as demonstrated by the frescoed ceilings, the artistic stuccos and the fine furniture that enriches its rooms. The Palace welcomes visitors with its beautiful private garden on the ground floor, and then it gathers the guests in its large first-floor salons, in which past and present dialogue together. The restored Old Masters’ frescoes and the contemporary art masterpieces that are periodically shown in the exhibitions hosted here make Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello the perfect location for the balance between old and new, between ancient environment and contemporary art, architecture and design.

Today, the building is managed by ACIT Venice – the Italian-German Cultural Association – which is considered one of the most important intercultural associations in Europe. Thanks to the ACIT’s unceasing cultural activity, Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello nowadays has frequent collaborations with the Goethe Institute and with other local and international institutions, maintaining its ancient reputation. Because of these relations, it presents a huge program of memorable art exhibitions, conferences, congresses and concerts. Among the last institutional exhibitions, is its participation in the 58th Venice Biennale with the Guatemala pavilion, the Dominican Republic pavilion and the Grenada pavilion. ITSLIQUID Group already had the pleasure to hold some festivals and exhibitions in Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, such as MORPHOS Festival and FUTURE IDENTITIES Festival, both in 2014.
