SUPERNATURAL represented a forum for the direct exchange of ideas and contacts between collectors, artists, photographers, designers and art professionals. The art fair featured paintings, sculptures, photography art, installations, video art and live performance, focusing on the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban settings in contemporary times.

Artists, architects and designers had the opportunity to be inspired by the magical power of London, exploring the connection between desires, needs, and fears through rituals that bring humankind to change, transform and evolve their inner world.

During the first edition of SUPERNATURAL, many artists contribute to investigating the infinite ways of expression of our bodies related to the contemporary world; it’s the case of Ariel Palanzone, whose art flows between materialities with an appeal to the tactile, gives her own point of view about the bond between bodies and space: the movement is in the passage between thresholds, not only the material and spatial but also the perceptual and corporeal.

With his “Mesh 01 artwork, the Spanish artist Gerhard Puxhe creates avant-garde designs based on algorithms that experiment with complex geometries to explore the fluidity of form, finesse, movement and breaking with the conventional. In terms of photography, John Dobson draws inspiration from surrealism and abstract expressionism in his “Sleepwalking series” to capture places at dusk, where artificial light balances ambient light, creating an ethereal, dreamlike quality to the images in this series.

The topics of the exhibition were extensively explored through many artistic techniques, as the creator of digital découpage Elaine Ashburn shows us: unable to take home the large objects that people left outside the bins, she started to photograph everything she found, developing a penchant for knick-knacks. Ines de Poligny‘s works play on the edges of contrasts, between contemporary and ancestry, dynamic and still, exuberant and simplistic. Working with bodies of forms where lines of perimeters tend to ripple and repeat centrifugal like an echo, sometimes like in a zigzag movement, Ines leaves a distinctive mark. Colourful abstractions are worked by the artist thoroughly, creating a big contrast between rich detailed forms to differ from a quiet background.

Over time, Sarah Horton found herself drawn to the inner dreamscape of colour and a new world of expression on canvas (surrealistic, sometimes metaphysical expression). The natural beauty of the surroundings serves as an endless source of inspiration and intuitive sensing that moves her paintbrushes. Brittany Metz as well, as an installation and new media artist, creates work through self-awareness that
encourages introspection and contemplation; the short cyclical nature of her video work is meditative,
allowing the viewer to discover connections to the images presented through each cycle.

Overall, the first edition of SUPERNATURAL proved to be an immersive experience inside the fascinating universe of the complex labyrinths of the artists’ consciousness: a strong communication system with its own language and infinite ways of expression.
