VENICE INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2023 analyzes the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban contexts in contemporary times, through two main sections: LIQUID ROOMS and FUTURE LANDSCAPES.

LIQUID ROOMS analyzes the hidden parts of our identities, through an immersive experience inside the fascinating universe of the complex labyrinths of our consciousness. The human body is a changing system that connects us with other bodies and spaces to perceive the surrounding reality: a strong communication system with its own language and infinite ways of expression.

FUTURE LANDSCAPES are abstract, infinite and conceptual, associated with a sense of freedom and infinite extension. Primarily experienced with the mind, spaces redefine their limits and borders, transforming surfaces in an open flow of pure ideas. This section focuses on the concept of boundaries and structures between bodymind and soul, human identity and the city, the space and the ground.

Our bodies are constantly changing and evolving, and Lucely (Luz/Luce) Vargas Preciado perfectly embodied this concept: her artistic portrays the turmoil and disruption that accompany change, unravelling the internal equilibrium. These tumultuous times are a blend of positive and negative emotions, dancing in contradiction: through her work, the artist took visitors into the journey of personal growth and the unwavering pursuit of stability in life’s evolving tapestry. In the same way, the artist Michela Pizzinat made an excursion around her artistic exploration and development, building a path across diverse stylistic avenues and embracing her cultural and regional roots, rekindling the expressive language of Venetian figurative art. Through this revival, the artist engaged with pressing themes that demand urgent expression, such as the complex status of women in today’s society, and their delicate equilibrium between empowerment and the pursuit of inner truth and femininity.

The LIQUID ROOMS concept suggests that we can learn more about ourselves by exploring the hidden parts of our minds: Marina Reutova gave her precious contribution to this theme by sharing her personal journey through life, finding her artistic home in Bali, Indonesia. Her works can be seen as an odyssey through femininity, spirituality, and personal growth, drawing inspiration from a rich multicultural experience. Through introspection and self-acceptance, Marina’s work intertwined universal themes with her intimate narratives, unravelling the depths of human connection with archetypes and life’s profound meanings. On the other hand, Tiffany Offre offered an escape from the sterile perfection of our “man-made world”, through her vibrant immersive pieces that reveal nature’s intricate details. Her focus lies in capturing the interplay of light and shadow, highlighting the ever-changing beauty of sunlight as it dances through time. By creating ethereal atmospheres, she reminded us that light and darkness coexist, enriching our appreciation of each other.

Yen Hui Chen‘s paintings aspired to infuse the world with colors and light, offering solace to the heart and illuminating life’s path. In the simplicity of her canvas, she uncovers the depth of human emotions, deepening that knowledge of the human mind: the representation of ordinary scenes, in her eyes, evokes unique rhythms and sentiments: her art sake to unveil the diverse movements hidden within the familiar, reminding us that even in the simplest of moments, a world of emotion thrives. With the same interest in the beauty of colors and the feelings they provoke, the photographer Paolo Staccioli embarked on an experimental journey with light, shifting his focus to abstract photography and thriving on material experimentation, harnessing the interplay of transparency, reflection, and refraction under natural and artificial light. Emotions finally find their expression in his work.

Iulia Deme is not just a painter, but an emotion-crafter: feelings take center stage on her canvas. Her recent artistic exploration delves into a visual diary, introducing an androgynous character, “yin and yang”, born during the pandemic’s turbulent times: through this character’s journey, she found refuge from the world’s turmoil and limited freedom. This protagonist infused the artist with hope and a touch of youthful, illustrative humour, ultimately shaping her artistic identity.

The exhibition was enriched by two different performances which made viewers get into a deep exploration of their bodies and minds. Her piece, My True North Yoga & Sound revolved around sound baths, sound healing, and meditation, embarking on a journey aimed at connecting with kindred spirits in the modern and alternative wellness space. In the same way, through their innovative Live Performance “Draw Me”, interpreted by Maria Sofia Palmieri and written by Silvia Bordi, this group of young artists put attention on symbolism and psychology: their theme revolves around the barriers of communication and mental disconnection between men and women. Through the power of their bodies and movement, they bridge this division, bringing down communication barriers.

As a visual artist exploring plastic and media arts, Elhem Younes‘s practice revolved around a reflective inquiry into the foundations of meaning in our tech-driven world, interpreting FUTURE LANDSCAPES as digital spaces or virtual worlds. Her works navigated the fragility of perception and the transient nature of our existence, where discomfort and even repulsion can coexist with a unique sense of beauty. Across different artistic mediums, she constructed spaces fostering introspection and self-reflection and reflecting technology’s impact on artistic intentions, considering its influence on social, political, and moral dimensions. Driven by a deep curiosity to understand the essence of various perspectives and the underlying ‘why’ of human nature, Matt Jacob‘s photography engages in various projects worldwide, exploring different “landscapes” with the clear intention of spotlighting lesser-known ways of life within the realm of fine art. Photography for Matt revolves around perception, not so much about what you see but more about the way you see it.

A particular experience that allowed users to explore a real/surreal landscape was Kyo Chen‘s photographs of fireflies: for the past three years, she documented these little insects and their vibrant existence, creating a sense of movement and dynamism. The viewer was able to fly through the landscape, exploring it from different angles, creating a sense of awe and wonder, and feeling transported into another place and time.

OUR LOCATION

Palazzoalbrizzicapello 001 1

Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello is one of the most known palaces of the Renaissance in Venice. It is a historical building dating back to the 16th century, and it has been owned by several noble Venetian families, as demonstrated by the frescoed ceilings, the artistic stuccos and the fine furniture that enriches its rooms. The Palace welcomes visitors with its beautiful private garden on the ground floor, and then it gathers the guests in its large first-floor salons, in which past and present dialogue together. The restored Old Masters’ frescoes and the contemporary art masterpieces that are periodically shown in the exhibitions hosted here, make Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello the perfect location for the balance between old and new, between ancient environment and contemporary art, architecture and design.

Today the building is managed by ACIT Venice – the Italian-German Cultural Association – which is considered one of the most important intercultural associations in Europe. Thanks to the ACIT unceasing cultural activity, Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello has nowadays frequent collaborations with the Goethe Institute and with other local and international institutions, maintaining its ancient reputation. Because of these relations, it presents a huge program of memorable art exhibitions, conferences, congresses and concerts. Among the last institutional exhibitions, is its participation in the 58th Venice Biennale with the Guatemala pavilion, the Dominican Republic pavilion and the Grenada pavilion. ITSLIQUID Group already had the pleasure to hold some festivals and exhibitions in Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, such as MORPHOS Festival and FUTURE IDENTITIES Festival, both in 2014.
