VENICE INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2025 analyzes the relationship between body and space, and the hybridization between identities and cultural/physical/social/urban contexts in contemporary times, through two main sections: LIQUID ROOMS and FUTURE LANDSCAPES.
With contributions from more than 80 artists from all over the world, this edition stages a living conversation between memory and measure, instinct and geometry. Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, with its stratified history, houses the exhibition in two distinct spaces: the contemporary white wall space and the noble floor, whose 18th-century frescoes frame the works with echoes of the past. This duality of spaces enhances the dialogue between present and history, between modern artistic languages and classical memory.

In the frescoed noble halls, the rediscovery of Maria Elena Nelson-Lavie’s oeuvre, brought forward with devotion by her daughter, highlights her mastery of movement and color. Balancing radiant chromatic surges against white grounds, she transformed lived experience into a structured yet spontaneous visual language defined by vitality and tension. A similar energy drives Margaret Bolinska, who, loyal to acrylic after years of exploration, uses chromatic force and expressive gestures to move between dynamism and contemplation. For her, each canvas is not only a visual composition but a reflection of the soul at the very moment of creation. Ernesto Artig adds another register with his diptych, “Eruption of Passion” and “Ebb & Flow”. Built through layering, erasing, and reworking surfaces, the two canvases contrast fiery intensity with meditative calm, embodying his search for authenticity and rhythm.
Alejandro Villafuerte Aex presents paired bodies, fragile architectures of intimacy that embrace, fracture, and sometimes reunite. His figures are not heroic but vulnerable, testaments to the instability of human ties. In their gestures we see the precariousness of love, friendship, and trust – bonds that, like the city’s bridges, hold firm only through constant care. In counterpoint, Luis Miguel Vaz-Romero turns to antiquity in his reinterpretation of “Diosa Ceres”. Here, serenity and authority are restored to a fragmented goddess through the depth of her gaze and the ethereal aura that surrounds her. Together, Villafuerte Aex and Luis Miguel Vaz-Romero explore two complementary aspects of presence: one fragile and transient, the other timeless and monumental.

Sylvia Martina Malikova provides a further layer of reflection by uncovering the hidden geometries of the natural world. Fractions, rhythms, and proportions emerge in her canvases, reminding us that beneath the fragility of human bonds or the permanence of myth there is an invisible order – one that unites organic and spiritual dimensions. If Malikova searches for the hidden structures that sustain reality, Fiorè responds by dissolving them into vibrant fields of memory and instinct. Her vibrant chromatic fields, infused with rhythm and theatrical sensibility, dissolve boundaries and convey the fluidity of human experience. In her work, the world is not divided by clear lines but constantly blending, reflecting the same sense of transition and transformation that defines Venice itself.
On the other hand, Fernando Viñolo confronts the darker strata of history: his paintings and sculptures bear witness to violence, oppression, and uprooting. Far from depicting suffering as spectacle, his works transform it into testimony, ensuring that historical trauma is neither silenced nor forgotten. In this space, his presence resonates like a counterpoint to abstraction, grounding the exhibition in the weight of collective memory.
If Viñolo anchors the exhibition in the weight of collective history, Oana Andrei’s high-contrast images dissect intimacy with a sharp lens, exposing the choreography of tension, power, and vulnerability. Each frame feels like a confrontation, a moment of truth in which predator and prey exchange roles. Marina Mark, by contrast, embraces intuition and gesture, layering abstraction as a process of self-discovery.

Memory, finally, becomes the deepest current of this space. Henriette Schlote captures luminous summer moments: children at play, gardens in bloom, sunlight scattering across canvas like fleeting letters. Her paintings glow with immediacy, yet their sketch-like brushwork emphasizes the transience of the scene. Nives Rigodanzo, by contrast, layers fragments of recollection – objects, emotions, half-formed narratives – into melancholic, spontaneous surfaces. For her, memory is not reconstruction but emergence, a process that resists closure. Dieter Kunz closes this chorus with “Wild Sea”, a painting that transforms a near-drowning into a universal allegory of survival. Water becomes both threat and salvation, embodying the delicate balance of risk and renewal. Together, these three artists remind us that memory – whether luminous, layered, or traumatic – is what anchors identity, even as everything else shifts.

OUR LOCATION

Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello is one of the most well-known palaces of the Renaissance in Venice. It is a historical building dating back to the 16th century, and it has been owned by several noble Venetian families, as demonstrated by the frescoed ceilings, the artistic stuccos and the fine furniture that enriches its rooms. The Palace welcomes visitors with its beautiful private garden on the ground floor, and then it gathers the guests in its large first-floor salons, in which past and present dialogue together. The restored Old Masters’ frescoes and the contemporary art masterpieces that are periodically shown in the exhibitions hosted here make Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello the perfect location for the balance between old and new, between ancient environment and contemporary art, architecture and design.
Today, the building is managed by ACIT Venice – the Italian-German Cultural Association – which is considered one of the most important intercultural associations in Europe. Thanks to the ACIT’s unceasing cultural activity, Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello nowadays has frequent collaborations with the Goethe Institute and with other local and international institutions, maintaining its ancient reputation. Because of these relations, it presents a huge program of memorable art exhibitions, conferences, congresses and concerts. Among the last institutional exhibitions, is its participation in the 58th Venice Biennale with the Guatemala pavilion, the Dominican Republic pavilion and the Grenada pavilion. ITSLIQUID Group already had the pleasure to hold some festivals and exhibitions in Palazzo Albrizzi-Capello, such as MORPHOS Festival and FUTURE IDENTITIES Festival, both in 2014.
