Artisanal Luxury
Sustainable Slow Made Textiles
Formed in 2016, Studio Variously is a sustainable design brand based out of Detroit/Michigan that promotes contemporary application of heritage techniques by forging unique artisanal partnerships globally. Capsule collections of home and fashion accessories are ethically made, ensuring living wages, inclusiveness to resources local to the artisan families like small farms, women employment thereby making their supply chain more meaningful.

Seeking to follow the pace of nature, value in human and cuture driven connection, has been defining Studio Variously‘s path as a sustainable brand focusing on textiles. This brand exclusively works with heritage master artisans of 3rd/4th generation to create textile based collections. Studio Variously believes that sustainbility is a shared responsibility which is why they support Sustainable Design Goals by United Nations in their design+manufacturing process. Studio Variously explores minimal design elements by combining environment friendly materials and ancient techniques, seeking beauty in slow made textiles that bring people and their cultural stories together. They believe good design comes in small batches and is made responsibly. To ensure longevity and functionality, only premium qualities of dyes like Certified Eco Swiss dyes, organic dyes & finest qualities of natural yarns like cashmere, linen , silk, yak, cotton are used. Studio Variously collaborates directly (no middlemen) with artisans to make products like throws, blankets, scarves, pillows, bedspreads, rugs.

Founder and Creative Director of Studio Variously, Anjali Purohit believes in personal and direct relations with every artisan family involved. She has travelled to approximately 8-10 different village clusters between India and Nepal since she started her company, based in Michigan in 2016. Craft based design collections has been her forte since 15 years now. She believes that scalability ideas and innovation is the way to ensure survival of these dying craft techniques. Researching well before enbaling design and production process is an essential part of her work. Born and raised in India, Anjali pursued design education from prestigious schools like NIFT Delhi and NABA Milano. Having worked over 12 years and exhibited in design and art hubs like New Delhi, Mumbai, Berlin, Milan, Frankfurt, prior to her standuplabel in Detroit. Ankali has performed roles in design, art direction, product development, production and sourcing for brands like Next UK, Woolworth OK, Orobianco Italy, Positive Flow Italy, Pottery Barn, Free People and organizations like Unted Nations Development Project, Ministry of Textiles and Craft Council India.

Studio Variously has collaboreted and worked with 15-20 artisans that work in family based clusters in India and keeps about 30 artisans employed through a direct collaboration with ethical production facility. There are no middle mens or agents involved which means we get to collaborate directly, and everything they pay goes either towards the artisans or the cost of production and development. All artisans that are involved with their work are 3rd/4th generation artisans so each piece of textile produced enables their restoration and revival of techniques and retains their economic sustainability. Studio Variously determines the costs of products by directly working with their artisans. The unit in Nepal uses solar power and provides health insurances to the artisans. The artisan families in India mostly work from their home workshops which keeps them safe in their own ecosystem. 80% of artisans in their supply chain are women which means they are enabling economic empowerment to young female adults to learn this craft from their families and mothers as well to further empower their families.

Studio Variously founder Anjali Purohit is an active volunteer to enable local engagement in Detroit area for Fashion Revolution, a global movement enabling transparency in fashion industry, which is based out of London.
