Studio XO for Lexus NX-PERSPECTIVES

Fashion pioneers Studio XO have created a forward-thinking fashion film using a combination of meticulously crafted couture and impressive digital manipulation. The film provides an artistic interpretation of the relationship between human and vehicle, taking cues from the beautiful design of the interior of the new Lexus NX . “For us this is a couture project where we’re able to really experiment,” explained Nancy Tilbury, Creative Director at Studio XO “..and in this instance, push materials and the thinking about man and materials to the absolute extreme.”

Wearable tech has been making headlines over the last couple of years as we move from a fanciful notion of what technology will look like in the future, to the reality of how far it has come. Technology has moved from computers the size of whole rooms to ergonomically designed, handheld masters of our universe that connect us all, technology which is almost a part of us, a second skin, is the natural progression. The best technology is that which goes almost unnoticed were it not for its brilliance.

Technical Director, Benjamin Miles explains this further, “We love the idea that you wear a car, the interface between the body and machine becomes minimal or completely non existent.” Studio XO have lead the way with their combination of beautiful fashion design and bespoke engineering. Bringing the luxury of couture and detailed design of engineering to create ground-breaking designs that change the way we think about both fashion and technology.

The materials used to create the interior of the NX were a natural jumping off point for Nancy and Benjamin Miles, founders of Studio XO. Working with their team of designers, pattern cutters and material experts, inspired by the leathers and fabrics specially chosen for the NX, Studio XO have created four digital skins. These pieces, which act as an extension of the wearer, use groundbreaking materials which have been specially designed to be further amplified with the use of After Effects in the piece of incredible video art they have created for NX-Perspectives.

REN HANG, PHOTOGRAPHY

Flesh, corpses, souls and bland flashlights, all composite into seconds or milliseconds of lights and shadows, projecting onto the film that never knows how to lie. Focus gathering and the shutter releasing, connecting his unpretentious, rebellious, wild and free perspectives towards the naked human body. The images look so natural, yet fun and unexpected. One soul after another all blossom like a newborn baby, urging to crawl out of his mother's womb, dying to be redefined. In this era that we live in, being censored by the Chinese government has almost become a stamp of approval for contemporary artists. Ren Hang, a young man with a mature look and tanned skin, hair as short as a Chinese soldiers', always carrying an irresistibly cute and innocent smile on his cheeks. He is, perhaps, the sole artist and photographer with the most edgy outlook towards the naked human body. Read more
