SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE WORKSHOPS | VENICE 2018

The 3-days / 7-days SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE WORKSHOPS are part of VAA – Venice Architecture Academy, the academic division of SURFACES FESTIVAL, and will be presented in Venice at Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi, THE ROOM Contemporary Art Space, and other prestigious venues and historical buildings, in the months between May and November 2018, in the same period of the BIENNALE ARCHITETTURA 2018 – 16th International Architecture Exhibition.

The workshop is focused on sustainable architecture and sustainable living communities: how to think and project in order to respect the earth and the natural elements of air, water and fire, mixing the employment of natural materials with energy saving strategies.

Courses provide theoretical and practical instruction in the fundamentals of sustainability in architecture design: how to use the timeless principles of nature to build ecologically, safe shelter for themselves and their community. Getting smart about strategies is an important step to design energy efficient buildings. During the workshops will be analyzed the principles of bioclimatic design and the application of natural and innovative techniques for sustainable architecture and urban design.

Lectures, readings, group discussions, and site visits encourage the deep understanding of Sustainable Architecture, as well as a critical awareness of how to develop a sustainable project. Work in progress is continuously presented and discussed in a critical forum.

Participants will learn the theory and apply their new knowledge through the design of a sustainable architecture. Philosophy and techniques rooted in timeless traditions of sustainability in architecture, combined with appropriate technology for a futuristic world.

At the end of the course all the participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi (Cannaregio 4132, Venice) is a residential palace dating back to the 16th century which, over the centuries, has been added on to by various noble Venetian families and is one of the most evocative and beautiful palaces in the city of Venice. Sumptuous and possessing particular charm, Ca’ Zanardi is located in a most peaceful setting and has its own delightful private garden as well as a magnificent terrace full of sun and colours.

Ca’ Zanardi is located close to the Ca’ D’Oro, the splendid 15th century gothic palace along the Grand Canal. It is easily reachable by foot, after a two minute walk from the Ca’ D’Oro water bus stop, or by boat using the palazzo’s private pier positioned along the fetching Santa Caterina canal.
