Timo Niskanen studied industrial design at the Alto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture and is currently working as a freelance designer. He is especially interested in design for everyday life and mainly works in fields of design management and concept design. Before founding his own company, he worked as a in-house designer in a Finnish lighting brand and has been as a partner at a design consultancy firm. He describer his design philosophy: ” We are surrounded with complicated and unnecessary things. I think a good product feels natural – it only bears the essential. A good designer creates an experience out of something simple and functional. An experience that is meaningful.”

Change – Coin deposit lamp, prototype, Timo Niskanen

Loop is minimalist led table lamp. It is designed to endure time through its pure design language intended to counter constantly changing fashions and trends, as well the use of led as a light source. The lamp prototype is manufactured by bending a machined piece of solid surface material around a mold. Loop won 1st prize in LG Hi-Macs national design competition.

Change – Coin deposit lamp come from the fact that, apparently, 95 percent of environmental impact of lighting comes during the usage. Change is an task light for public spaces (libraries etc.), encouraging to turn lights off when leaving the desk in order to reduce the energy consumption. On the other hands, the IA light pattern is adjusted by changing the lamp’s position. The lamp can be also folded flat for easy transportation and storage.
