United Nude Coral 3D printed shoes

Leading footwear brand United Nude and one of the world’s leading 3D printing companies, 3D Systems (NYSE: DDD), have been working together for 2 years and have together printed some of industry’s most cutting edge designs. The two companies have now combined for a major new exhibition, this time at the prestigious Level Shoe District: the largest shoe department in the largest shopping mall in the world “The Dubai Mall“.

By putting the actual 3D printers in front of the public, consumers can get an insight of this rapidly developing technology and they can see how a design is in fact printed, layer by layer from the bottom up. This is a unique opportunity to see what this futuristic technology looks like when it is working. With everything from shoes to replacement body parts possibly being 3D printed in the future, this is truly the cutting edge of technology!

The new United Nude Coral shoes were designed to be printed on the 3D Systems CubePro®: the allnew professional desktop 3D printer from 3D Systems. Inspired by sea corals the shoe consists of a 3D printed wedge with sculptural holes through its side and has a small 3D printed buckle and a textile ribbon to attach to the foot.

The upper can be made with any kind of textile ribbon, in any color and in endless tying variations. This is in fact a shoe without an upper that allows the wearer to bring their own creative ideas to bear on the final product. The Coral shoe was specially designed for Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience at Level Shoe District by Rem D Koolhaas, and his team at United Nude.
