WAIWAI – Where Leather Finds Its Voice

WAIWAI is a Vancouver-based design studio founded by Sasha Arkhipova, specializing in sculptural leather jewelry and tactile home décor. Every piece is made by hand using only offcuts and leftover leather, materials often discarded in industrial production. By reclaiming what would otherwise be waste, WAIWAI gives new life to a precious resource, creating sustainable, one-of-a-kind designs for both the body and the living space.

WAIWAI’s commitment to sustainability runs deep. Rather than sourcing new hides, Sasha uses upcycled leather, remnants, trims, and scraps, working with what already exists. Each material arrives with its own character: softness, sheen, irregularity. Through cutting, folding, and shaping, she lets the leather speak. The process is slow, intuitive, and minimal, free from harsh chemicals or heavy machinery. The result is work that honors both the material and the hand that shapes it.

From petal-like earrings to knot chokers and bead-laced cuffs, WAIWAI jewelry is intentionally lightweight and deeply wearable. But the studio’s vision extends beyond adornment, WAIWAI also creates home décor pieces that bring the same tactile sensitivity into living spaces. These objects, ranging from dimensional wall pieces to sculptural accents, carry the same quiet presence, crafted to be seen, touched, and lived with.
