The story of Wushu Ruyi is deeply connected to the journey of two Italian brothers, Walter and Paolo Lorini, renowned martial artists whose dedication transformed an ancient Asian discipline into a lifelong philosophy. Their path is one of passion, innovation, and cultural dialogue, where sport, tradition, and design converge into a unique creative vision.

Introduced to martial arts at a very young age in Milan, the Lorini brothers began their training in Karate in one of the city’s first dojos. By the late 1970s, they became pioneers in Italy by transitioning from Karate to Wushu, a discipline that was still largely unknown in Europe at the time. Their commitment quickly led them to international recognition: between 1982 and 1987, they were members of the Italian National Wushu Team, with Walter achieving the European Champion title in Barcelona and earning a historic Taiji gold medal, later becoming the first Italian Shaolin monk of the 32nd generation. Paolo distinguished himself with multiple victories at the Italian Championships, establishing both brothers as key figures in the development of Wushu culture in Italy

This deep connection to movement and tradition inspired a groundbreaking innovation. In 1985, Walter and Paolo designed and developed the first shoes specifically created for Wushu practice, a project born from necessity but shaped by vision. These sneakers combined technical functionality with symbolic meaning, reflecting the philosophy behind the discipline itself.

At the heart of Wushu Ruyi lies the RU YI, an ancient Oriental symbol historically associated with the emperors of the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). Beyond its historical significance, RU YI embodies a spiritual concept: the fulfilment of wishes and harmony between intention and action. Integrated into the identity of the shoes, the symbol transforms the object into more than sportswear; it becomes a cultural statement where tradition meets contemporary design.
