The Xiamen convention exhibition center & sports precinct, a large-scale 600 hectare urban design masterplan and detailed architecture proposal, that forges a new center for Xiamen’s cultural and civic heart in the city’s Guiyuan district.

As a key legacy project, at the nexus of the cities vast expansion plan, in one of china’s most flourishing cultural & tourist destinations, a popular location for travel among locals for its natural flora and fauna, the government’s desire to expand significant capacity in hosting large scale international exhibitions with convention capacity. Furthermore, an international sporting destination with potential to host Olympic events, supported by new surrounding mixed use commercial and residential interconnected hubs.

Project details
The vibrant retail waterfront destination, an active pedestrian interface, leveraging the view amenity for elevated food and beverage opportunity. A landscape integrated 2 level destination for patrons to explore and recharge as points of respite between exploring the vast 13 independent exhibition halls (700,000 sqm of total exhibition hall space with 2 grand ticketing halls. With its own central grand ballroom & banquet hall, an independent 2500-person performance theatre, all centrally and directly connected over the primary subterranean high-speed rail interchange.

The alpha park loop, an essential final piece of the proposal, an elevated 8km ecological landscape loop park, a program filled pedestrian platform hosting various museum, retail, Civic Center, parking and bus interchange infrastructure. The loop park linking all precincts together as one interconnected masterplan. Vehicular access is proposed away from the center of the masterplan, liberating pedestrian flow to allow for greater open public space, with direct access up to overland light-rail/monorail interchanges for quicker access around the masterplan. The underside of this alpha park loop, consolidating parking and support amenities for large civic and sports events, bus interchanges.

    MERCEDES-BENZ MUSEUM

    The Mercedes-Benz Museum is located next to highway B14 at the entrance of Stuttgart. The museum covers 16,500 m2 of exhibition space for the historical collection of Mercedes-Benz, which consists of 160 cars.
